Saw Gringos at Derby this weekend. Love the figures and the displays – fantastic painting of the Napoleonic ranges. I've already reported about Gringos fantastic service via postal orders. Well I have to say what a brilliant reception you get when dealing face to face. I'm just a name to Ged, but (and I noticed this whilst hanging out – or should that be drooling!!- around the stall looking at figures, you get a first class reception from him. Nothing is too much trouble and Ged seems to make everyone feel important and valued no matter the size of the order. And what a mine of information. Thanks for the friendly welcome ged and hope to see you with your fantastic figures at other shows. Best Wishes davejl |

I can only say I am bowled over by the quality of the Gendarmes d'Elite and Mamelukes, that I ordered. As a collector, rather than wargamer, my order was minuscule and will not transform the company's balance sheet. But they do deserve to prosper. They have tackled subjects that are fringe, but see the standard of the castings! My Malmaison coach is done. (Best Diorama I have created, even if colours a bit subdued). If ImageShack ever recover,I will post pics, but now working on these two units. Best thing is the separate right arm for many cavalry figures. Massive potential for a unique personal creation. My Gendarmes' Kettledrummer will be one! |

Spent the afternoon working on various Gringo figures. My attempt at turning an eagle bearer into a drummer. He still needs the drum skin and banners. These are just a former to take the rest. I had to swap sides with the aigulettes as no longer an officer. I added a sword hilt to his empty scabbard. Bit of lace on his chest and job's done The horse is an ACW Perry plastic (plastic is so easy to grind down. He was bit skinny though compared to the Gringo horses…so he has a chunk of plastic rod holding his two halves open to fatten him up! The Greenstuff is still soft as I post this! Since posting, I have changed his aigulettes…that one outside his upper arm should be a single strand and it has bothered me all day….I am like that…….
I hate to say this, but the Mamelukes are even better……I undercoated them in white not black. The detail is dauntingly scary, frankly

Yes Footslogger you have really hit on something there – the world does need more kettle drummers, and the sooner this happens the better. Am now eagerly awaiting the work you must surely write: "the kettle drummer's manifesto" and the commencement of a grass roots movement. Cymbalists? Self aggrandizing Imposters that are just causing trouble… |
