This is a 3D-printed Canadian Otter light reconnaissance car. The scale is 1/56 – 28mm. The vehicle was used by Canadian force, British and Polish troops during WWII.

There are about 20 parts to make this model. This is a test prototype for verifying design, shape and details of the 3D model. We will modify the 3D design with the help of this test model and then make a master for resin casting.

Two versions of the vehicle will be available in a single kit – a British version with sand channels and antenna and a Canadian version with a large storage box.

In the turret I put a metal British tank crew from Warlord Games, as you can see the figure fits the turret very well.

That looks delightful!

I hope you go on to make the Chevy Armoured Truck on the same chassis — I'll be in for 3 of those if you do.

Disco Joe02 Oct 2015 6:54 a.m. PST

It looks good.

Hi miniMo,

C15TA armoured truck is a beautiful beast as well. If the market responds to the release of Otter well, we will certainly make the armoured truck. Cheers!

For good or for ill, 3D printing is really going to be a huge disruption to the established business model of this hobby. Especially if the models come out as nice as this one!

Zargon03 Oct 2015 7:37 a.m. PST

Roll on 3D this is impressive, think with Printers all over the world no shocking postal costs no rude postal workers too ;+D people will just pay for design and product where they live, big win win I say, and if I want more I have already paid so just the print costs.
Cheers and good work there NeucraftModels good luck and prosperity to you.

Thanks for making this model happen. I'll certainly buy one when available.

Good to know you'll consider the C15TA.

OK, OK, I'll buy an Otter then to encourage you! But please keep in mind that transports are likely to sell in greater numbers. I want 3 trucks to carry a platoon in grand Canadian style.

lou passejaire04 Oct 2015 3:16 a.m. PST

as you got the chassis , a CMP C15 truck ?

Hi Nick and Zargon, 3D printing is promising but not yet ready for mass production of miniatures which have surface quality comparative to the traditional resin products, not to mention unit cost. We use medium-resolution 3D printer to make test parts so we can check shapes and parts fit. But surface quality is not very satisfactory. You can see visible layers on the surface. When the design is finally approved, large parts will be printed with a medium-resolution printer and smaller parts will be printed with a high-resolution printer. The surface of large parts has to be carefully treated by a skilled worker to create a smooth and matt (or semi-gloss) look. After the parts are treated and fitted, they can be used for resin casting.

However, the development of 3D printing is so fast that a machine suitable for mass production of miniatures at reasonable cost is probably already around the corner. Let's wait and see:-)

Hi Two Ducks Pond, thank you for your support.

To miniMo and lou, yes there will be CMP trucks. Cannot resist the mean-looking of Cab11 and Cab13.

Sweet beans!

shthar05 Oct 2015 7:35 p.m. PST

How much did it cost to print?

autoblinda06 Oct 2015 1:46 a.m. PST

very good

NeucraftModels06 Oct 2015 7:48 a.m. PST

to shthar,

Very high. We use 3D-printing to make master, not kit.

shthar07 Oct 2015 3:36 p.m. PST

There's all this stuff about 3-d printing, but noone ever talks about how much it costs. I suspect it costs even more per ounce than computer printer INK.
