Were any of the Ottoman generals of the Egyptian wars of the 1830`s reasonable commanders ? |

I'd love to see any information you have on the Ottoman-Egyptian Wars of the 1830s. What scale are you using? Have you found any suitable figures for the Eygptian Cuirassiers? The closest I've been able to find are 15mm Sikh Cuirassiers. I believe that Moltke wrote about the war. It's an obscure war which is why it fascinates me. |

Hi Robert, Yes, not easy finding information… I`ve found various internet sources which I could pass on to you if you like – not much to go on, but I think I have enough to make a variant to my Napoleonic games rules (Grand Manoeuvre) work OK. Concerning Moltke, there`s BATTLES OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY. MOLTKE'S FIRST BATTLE : NISIB. link it`s maybe better in .pdf format – just google it. Other references that I`ve found useful I could probably dig out for you later. I was looking for Moltke`s "Letters from Turkey".. maybe this might shed some light on the subject ? Regards, Mike. |

If you read Thomas Gordon, History of The Greek War of Independence it has good info on Ottoman and Egyptian commanders, many who fought in Greece were also involved the Egyptian/Ottoman campaigns. I found In 28mm Perry Miniatures and Castaway Arts have figs that could be used in their Sudan ranges, however these are very much proxy figs. |

Skimming through the volumes, maybe I should have simply asked; other than Rešid Mehmed, were there any Ottoman generals who weren't poor commanders ? Can anyone give me some definite indications on this one please? |

It's an elusive topic. The second volume of the Cambridge History of Egypt has a little but not much. I think there's a brief monograph by an-Din that touches, also briefly, on the subject. |
