Waiting on the ruleset. I really never cared for the square block look. More of a rectangular front type of guy. I know the rules utilize rectangles as linear formations, is there any harm in putting the Massed inf/cav brigades in a rectangular base? |

It makes pivoting a little trickier but you can probably adapt well enough. You do realize the square base wasn't chosen for aesthetic purposes but rather to represent the actual coverage of a brigade? |

I don't think it will matter. Do you intend to change the base width, or just the depth? |

I don't think it matters as long as the bases are the same on both sides |

Both base depth and width. I'm thinking of 40mm frontage for my small table. Maybe 40mm x 30mm? |

And Rich, if it wasn't for aesthetics we would all be playing boardgames :) |

Make them 40mm square. As Rich says the square base was derived from an analysisi of period formations. |

Some people play it half scale like that. If I were to do so, I would justt use 40mm squares as well, but 40 x 30 would work if you prefer that look. |

The idea was a regiment foot print – rectangular Thus a brigade of two regiments ( most typical of the periods) was one regiment behind the other… so a square foot print. Some of the larger regiments are represented in the game/scenario as the regiment since the brigade ( and foot print) was too big for the unit&game play mechanics. If I play V&B, I would make all my units in the rectangle of the regiment and put them on sabots together for when they must operate as a single brigade unit since the regiment is too small or scenario/size of battle requires. If you provide both sides, I'd say square bases aren't vital. |
