In the past when I post in a thread it moves that thread to the top of the list on that board.

The last few days I've noticed that this isn't happening anymore. It also doesn't appear to be keeping an accurate count of posts.

I'm not sure if this is wide spread, but it is happening on the 6mm Sci-Fi board.

It might have something to do with the problems mentioned in the last few discussions in the TMP Talk and the TMP Bugs And Features boards.

I think we finally broke TMP!

All my threads seems to have this problem… (smile).

No matter which day I choose…

I have inform Bill but without answer yet.

Have to wait if this is fixed or not…

If not… it's a real problem…

I agree it is a problem. I rely on posts being moved to the top to see what has been commented on.

I hope it gets fixed quickly.

I hope it gets fixed quickly.

Unlikely, since Bill is putting all the development effort into TMP4.0

Let's see if the maintenance tonight fixes the database.

TMP is a bit like your favourite Grannie.

She creaks a little, forgets things & then there's that smell.

On your birthday, she gets you a cardie, in the scratchiest chartreuse wool imaginable.

But we still love the old girl, faults & all.

For me it's a real problem as well. It has somewhat derailed a thread I recently started concerning a debate over a rules issue. For whatever reason the glitch stopped "registering" posts on the thread in question at the number 4 -- even though it now contains 9 posts -- and also stopped refreshing the thread back to the top of the list.

When I post a comment to answer another user's question on a thread and my comment appears but due to this glitch does not "register," it means there's a good chance the other user who I just replied to will never see my answer to their question, nor will others who were following the conversation.

For me personally TMP is all about posting my own game, terrain, miniatures, and history related info and then interacting with other users via their comments and questions -- and doing the same on threads started by others.

If I can't easily and quickly track when a new comment has been left on an old thread of mine or someone else's thread that I'm interested in and have been following… it will seriously degrade my ability to use and enjoy this site, which is something I do a lot of.

As has already been said by others above, I hope this is fixed fast.

Hah -- looks like this thread itself has fallen victim to the same "bug" -- it now has 12 posts, but is still listed at the top of this page as having "9," plus it has not "resfreshed," and moved to the top of the thread list despite several new comments.

Ah, well.

Mad Guru… you have explained it so well!… (smile)

Got it – so we wait for. 007 to put things right !

Well, for me this one has the time/date stamp from MichaelCollinsHimself's post and lists 15 posts.

[EDIT} And it updated from there.

MichaelCollinsHimself05 Oct 2015 11:15 p.m. PST

This board and the new 6mm naps board seems to be working, but the others tend to have done this…
Bill`s assuring us that the new version will put this right !

All of my posts for the past several days have had this problem. It's a real issue – given the rather basic nature of the boards themselves, the only way to check if a thread has been updated is to check the board list.

You can bookmark the thread itself to see.

Some people are having the issue with some boards and some threads and others are not. That sounds like a problem on the client end rather than the server end.

CATenWolde09 Oct 2015 2:28 a.m. PST

It's clearly not a client issue. Since all the board pages do is publish a very simple text output of a simple sql query summing individual messages keyed to individual thread topics, the issue has to be either with the database (most likely, bad or corrupted key data) or with the query (which seems much less likely).

… or caching, sequencing, passing, holding, reverting, etc. on the client side

I don't really buy the database issue, the problem seems to happen for some people and not for others on the same thread. Those type of things don't tend to correct themselves, and AFAIK, the only maintenance done here is reindexing, which is normally not related to that problem.

CATenWolde09 Oct 2015 3:47 a.m. PST

I tested the board pages against five different devices (3x PC, 1x iphone, 1x android tablet) over five different browsers that had *never* accessed TMP before, and the problems were 100% consistent. I'm trying to imagine a developer coming to me and explaining that it's a client side issue … I'd love to see screen cap's of those users who seem to report seeing things that other people don't see.

On second thought – no, I wouldn't like to see them. I temporarily forgot that any blathering I do here won't matter anyway. Back to painting. ;)

Cheers,

Christopher

Which is exactly my point. The problem was alleged to happen on this board on this thread, and I haven't seen it here at all. Is this thread still locked at 12 as reported above for you?
