Has anyone tried this? I'm asking because of the upcoming Team Yankee release. I would like to play, but fielding 9 tank companies as basic units is going to be exorbitant $$ to say the least. Infantry isn't a problem. Just use the bases as is. No muss, no fuss. It's vehicles! Each vehicle has a footprint that is going to be way bigger than that of a 6mm miniature for obvious reasons. The only fix I can think of is to mount 6mm figures on a base that would have a similar footprint as its 15mm relative. That, IMO, would allow the game to be played without any changes, especially with artillery. But I have to wonder if it was work from an appearance standpoint. Does anyone play Flames of War in 6mm? How do you make up for differences like I mentioned? |

Do NOT change any of the measurements, particularly the templates. It is very visually appealing that way. As with all games the ground scale vs the figure scale is seriously out of whack. Using 6mm stuff with the game 15mm measurements alleviates the out-of-whackedness a bit. |

People do it all the time, and the firing ranges look a lot better in the smaller scale, though the minis are considerably less impressive on the tabletop. |

don't worry about the footprint. Just keep everything as is. |

Don't change a thing. I've run it a dozen times, works perfectly. Even in 6mm with tons of room you will be SHOCKED how much people want to put their tanks side by side! A few artillery barrages teaches 'em though. Best of all you can buy tanks for a buck or two, or even less if you want to scour E-bay… For even more fun I do "Flames of Epic" using 6mm and half-scale (so half size infantry bases, and a ruler marked off in 1/2 inches). Now my table is effectively 12 x 18! I'm working on a 1943 game now – I just have a bunch of miscellaneous unts to get painted. |

Here is a picture of some of my infantry based for 1/2 scale FoW:

i did kursk in 6mm at fall in 6 years in a row. it is nice to show how limited artillery actually is. all done in cm instead of inches. game mechanics are the same. it rocks!all eolements are in there own. each unit is a half plattoon/ section. |

I am in the process of doing 1/2 scale with bases and ranges all 1/2. I have to do some like this for my kitchen table. I do not like the look of vehicles on bases. However… |

I base all my vehicles. Mostly so that they stay put in the magnet lined boxes I use for storage and transport. In some cases the base is barely visible as it does nor protrude. In other cases it protects the gun barrel. Unfortunately I'm not at all consistent in this:

Mark- If you do the game (I'm looking forward to Team Yankee)in 6mm, how large are the infantry bases? Many thanks Danny Weitz |

At least in normal FOW, vehicles don't have a 2" zone of control, so their physical size is not all that important. I'm doing Team Yankee in 6mm with 25mm square bases for tanks, and probably 20mm squares for infantry. Once you're in a non-standard size, tiny details like that aren't so important any more. Mostly, my infantry just have to fit inside my houses. But I'm not changing measurements at all. It's FOW, the scale isn't linear at all. |
