I was wondering about the German short 7.5 cm gun that was mounted on the Sdkfz 250 & Sdkfz 251 series of half-tracks and the 8 wheeled armored cars. Did the Germans ever mount the gun on a wheeled carriage as a stand along gun and not vehicle mounted? I feel it was a better gun than the IG 7.5 cm and wondered why I have not seen any. Thank you for you help and input. |

As far as I know, it's the same weapon. Any improvement in it's performance has to do with improved ammunition. So, yes there is a stand alone version. But it's the LIG. There was another German made 75mm gun. It was a cannon, as opposed to a howitzer. But I don't think it was very common. Most German artillery being of larger caliber… |

@Rrobbyrobot: The short 7.5 on the halftracks is the same as the early StuGs, an L/24. Barrel is about twice as long as on the leIG18. I suspect that the L24 was too heavy for the improved performance compared to the IG18 |

I suspect that the L24 was too heavy for the improved performance compared to the IG18 Indeed, this is probably why it was commonly mounted upon wheeled and half-track vehicles. |

As well as the comparative weight of the guns themselves, the 7.5cm leIG 18 round was very small – much smaller and lighter than that of the 24-calibre 7.5cm KwK 37. They would therefore be able to carry a lot more ammunition with minimal transport, which is probably what made it a more versatile weapon for infantry battalions. |

I thought the late war IG-37/ PAK-37 was the 75L24 on a ground mount. link link link Sold by Battlefront in 15mm as GE509 |

The IG37 used the same ammo as the IG18. The KwK38 L24 gun doesn't seem to have been used in any towed gun. link |

No, the 75 mounted on a 50mm Pak carriage was a French 75. |
