Hi, I'm putting the final touches on my characters and civilians for my Dux Brit campaign. I would like to add a group of monks and priests to occupy my church and serve as "holy booty" (sorry …), and while not necessary it would eventually be a nice touch to allow the players to have their "bards" on the table if they recruit one to sing their praises. Any suggestions for figures? I'm using Splintered Light miniatures, but couldn't find anything useful in their ranges. Cheers, Christopher |

Cool project. I am guessing you saw the bishop and nun in the HOOD05 (Robin Hood Villains) link pack as well as the priest in the Late Saxon personality pack link . Friar Tuck could like have his sword clipped off in the HOOD01 set. link Again, you probably have these bards but in addition to the CHAR06 set of thieves with bards link , I have one in IRISH01 link and one in HOOD01. On my short list (which is too long!!) I do want to do a pack of monks as I could use them for several projects I have in mind. Thanks, David splinteredlightminis.com |

Thanks! The project actually got delayed by year or two, but it's back at full steam now. I have the Britons done and am just working on the Saxon shields now, then it's on to the civilians and livestock etc. I'm using 2 figures on a 20mm base to stand in for 1x 28mm figure in the rules, so the units have a much more substantial look to them (and 3-4 figures for the noble stands). For instance, the Briton starting army consists of 91 figures, the Saxons 79. They're looking great – I'll send pic's when they are based. I knew about the bishop, but wasn't sure if he was too late looking. The others look great – Tuck could easily be converted to brandishing a cross. Believe it or not, I trolled though the packs looking for bards and didn't even spot those … Will be in touch. By the way, right now I'm using the pseudo-Merlin robed figure as the Briton priest, and the Saxon snake-priest on their side … things not to ask the wife during late night painting session: "What color should I paint my snake?" ;) Cheers, Christopher |

Two Dragons at Minifigs/Caliver link do a 'Village Elders' pack containing a couple of monks. It is in the Viking range (would be easier to find if it was with the peasants). |

Thanks for the tips. Almost all my wagons/livestock/booty/villagers come from Donnington's great "New Era" range, but I didn't look at the older figures closely enough. I really love the individual figure options and reasonable shipping at Donnington, which is great for this type of project. I had totally missed the Two Dragons pack as well – as you mentioned, looked in the wrong place. Cheers, Christopher |

Minifigs has some useful civilians hidden among their various ranges. These are from the Hussite Wars range:
The Medieval Civilians and Dark Age Civilians sets also include some nice figures (including a woman playing a lute if you want a female bard). They are listed here: link |

I thought I would check back in with a report. David at Splintered Light provided his usual great service, and I picked up a variety of his clergy, a couple of bards, civilians, and a mix of new leaders. SL continues to be a practically one-stop shopping spot for this period. I also ordered the Donnington monks, and was pleasantly surprised with how nice they were. The pictures on the site somehow give the impression that they are small and not very well defined, but these are nice, big figures that match well with SL in height, and might be a bit heftier, which suits them well. I got the classical looking bishop, the monk with the cross-standard, and six monks praying, which together provide a superb set of scenic/captives, where the SL figures are better for personalities.
