I'm basing up a Star Wars figure, and I want to go with a crystal caves of Ilum theme, and I want to have some tiny hex crystals on a human sized figure's 25mm base. How are these made? Just hex rod cut to a point? I vaguely remember a WD that said as much when the Necrons were re-released sometime in the mid-2000s. Any better ways to do it? Like maybe a order-able bit from Reaper Miniatures or something? |

I don't know exactly what you're after, but a search on EBay for "hexagonal crystals" turns up a lot,of choices. |

Try a craft store like Michaels or Joanns, they might have something in the t-shirt decorating materials alà glitter that might look right. |

Just guessing that most stuff from a craft store will be way too big for a 25mm base. Your idea of cutting hex rod at an angle sounds so simple it's brilliant. Get two sizes maybe, clump together, and salt the offcuts around the base of the clump. |

I think the idea for necrons was to take the clear green sprue for the guns and cut it into hex shapes. You should be able to find clear hex rod at places such as plastruc. You can also buy the GW basing packs that have them or from other companies. I think Relic Knights sells them with their bases. |

Actually, there are some neat little ones a lot of craft stores have that are intended for the bottoms of vases and the like. |
