I've just stared playing Saga recently beginning with Irish Celts and Vikings

Loving this game a lot as is but I think that it would really suit a campaign setting. IMHO the relatively low number of minis on table, the supreme importance of the actual Warlord and the historical setting itself all lend themselves to a campaign setting. Perhaps the narrative following the exploits of a single Warlord as he progresses from a young chieftain to perhaps a legendary High King (all going well ;) Perhaps even with his Herthguard individually named with some being rewarded for their gaming exploits by receiving increased heroic abilities etc… Casualties could be considered wounded and not necessarily mortally so defeat of Hearthguard or the Warlord won't necesarilly mean the end but perhaps weakens the warlord's reputation and therefore inhibits his ability to attach warriors/ hearthguard type troops.

I'm sure people must have tried something like this alreadyso is there some resources I could look at?

What do people think? Personally I'm really excited about starting a narrative. When I do I'll share it in the battle reports section

Sounds like you want the campaign rules from Dux Britanniarum by Too Fat Lardies. Almost exactly what you have described….

Thanks Cerdic. I'm on the way over to their place right now then :)

I'd been thinking about a narrative campaign for the Dark Ages. The Gutshot (Old West) rules have a "Knocking on Heaven's Door" rule for characters who are dead for the purpose of one game. You roll a die to see if he's dead or just badly wounded, if just badly wounded, you need to determine recovery time and see if there are any lasting consequences, like walk with a limp from then on.

We lose a lot of warlords in our Saga games: historically, this may be fairly accurate.

I just watched Richard's video of this and it looks great. My purpose is to "borrow" the background narrative and translate it to Saga. Is the product still worth it for this alone I wonder?

LoL I won't doubt it :) I guess I'll be following the trails and tribulations of one of the luckier ones ;)

I would like included in that "Knocking On Heaven's Door" having some kind of chance of a fatal hit resulting in a promotion of one of his Hearthguard (only after a contest between two of the most eligible candidates
