I'm currently exploring the Star Wars miniature battles rules and am looking for suggestions for good stand ins for the various aliens and the like. In particular, wookies, imperial army, blaster cannons, Mon calamaris and other such creatures. Any suggestions? |
War Monkey | 10 Sep 2015 6:23 a.m. PST |
Wargames Supply Dump has Chumbona Warriors that can work for Wookies, they are 20mm so that they would be taller. link Then there is Highlanders Studios who has his Space Pals on his blog. link As for other aliens most of the other miniatures site have good ranges of alien figures. |

Micronpanzer has some Valkyur who could stand-in for those dudes in white. |

Highlander also had the Kendo Masters & Student charity set to compliment the Space Pals. Khurasan sometimes has the guys in white available for a very limited time – you have to watch for an announcement and then get your order in ASAP. |

I already have the guys in white, it was more to do with the other races and armies. I have some Rebel look-a-likes, but wanted to expand the range with more! |
Quaker | 10 Sep 2015 10:08 a.m. PST |
The Highlander stuff is more like 20mm. |

The little Action Fleet figs are about 18mm – 20mm tall (closer to the latter, I think), so worth checking out. You can probably find Wookies. Mon Calamari are rarer, or non-existent, from that range, IIRC, but there are metal stand-ins for those, if you can stomach tentacle-headed creatures as an option. |

Yeah, Micro Machine figs are a solid choice. If you pick up the Star Wars Risk game they come with lots of figs. I fight the Clone Wars in this scale. The Risk game has Clone Troopers and Super Battledroids. Many of the WOTC vehicles are a better fit with this scale. My battles have a couple hundred infantry and 30+ vehicles for the Clone Wars. I have lots for the Imperial era. Just think the Clone Wars allow for larger battles. Micro Machines has just released General Grevious and Obi Wan Kenobi along with a nice Rebel and Imperial Speeder bike. Thanks,
John |

Doesn't 15mm.uk have some squid faced aliens to stand in for the Quarren? Blue Moon have some Greedo looking aliens. I use them as Space Horsefish to go with my Sharkmen and Lamprey army, rebel makes some aliens that would pass for SW stuff His 5th Element baddies might make for Gamorian troops |
Mako11 | 10 Sep 2015 8:22 p.m. PST |
Yea, those were the ones I was thinking of, for Calamari. |

I'm not sure if Black Hat still has these "Yeti" (and the tinier kin, the "Toleros"): link link Also, Pendraken has a nice "Wampa" stand-in: pendraken.co.uk/DN60-p6382 TMP link TMP link Dan PS. You might get more suggestions if you asked the Editor to cross-post the topic to 15mm also. |

The Black Hat Toleros are now with Brigade Models UK. That Frost Troll from Pendraken is excellent. They are like the Twanax from Blue Moon ( I always pictured them as Wampa ) link link He could go with these cold weather guys from TSS/QRF as Rebels on Cold Planets. link Modern US M16 advancing, arctic 15mm.co.uk have these which have been suggested before as Calamari Aquafid Infantry link link They also have these guys which could be moisture farmers from a planet with 2 suns and no girls. link link A Cloud City fellow who lost his Space Freighter in a card game to a 'charming rogue" link Bounty Hunter? Bossk? link Another IG-88 type bounty hunter from GZG link You could get all 4 in a pack. and R2 type units (as well as WallE) link and Blockade runner crewmembers? link Eureka have a Space Princess link
as well as Imperial Officers linklink
RAFM have a really uptight annoying protocol droid. link Bottom row centre Splintered Light Minis have a Space Emperor Rupert Murdoch Last on the right link link |

Also the Khurasan Deathroids have 1 figure which could be used as an Imperial Probe droid last seen on a frozen planet.

The Star Wars Command sets have AT-STs from Endor and AT-PDs from the Rebels are in the right scale too. Revell have the snaptight kits of the TIE Advanced at 1/110, TIE fighter at 1/100 and TIE Intercepter at 1/90. link Also Highlander Studios on Shapeways had a landspeeder And in the lines of a Space Princess, I thought the Khurasan Certain Fellows "aren't they a bit short to be Stormtroopers?"

Sorry I tried to add links before the site timed out. This is the Star Wars Command Endor set with the AT-ATs we have in our army. link and the Rebels Jedi Duel set with the AT-PD we have. The Desert escape set I've never seen before. I don't know how the Speeder scales out. But the Highlander Studios Speeder from Shapeways is right on. link
The Revell Star Wars Easykit Pocket Tie were the kits I was meaning. link |

@Cacique Caribe – Black Hat no longer have the Yetis and Tolero, they've arrived with us (via Armies Army). They aren't on the website yet, but the moulds are all working and they're available if anyone wants them. Just email me – tony@brigademodels.co.uk. |

Is it just me, or are others getting the message "You need to register/login to access this page" when trying to access Zac's link? |

Hi Dave, Thanks for the great news. I bought a few packs of both those sets back when Black Hat had them. I need to get back to painting because those are really going to be a lot of fun to do. They are mighty fine figures and I recommend them wholeheartedly. Dan |

I think one of your best bets is using the Retained knights from the Ion Age as Clone troopers I think that they would make a pretty good proxy. :) zac |
