I have got a blister of ge550 88 flak 36. Attached to the sprue with the cable rolls for the wheel units is what looks like a big woven mat. What is this? What is it used for? It looks similar texture to ammo cases.

That could be it. So is it just an open ammo case? What are they made of? What colour should I be painting it?

I had presumed it was the top of an ammo box (and would be just as interested as you to find out the correct colour/material).

The Germans often used mats to lay the ready ammo on to keep them dirt free prior to loading.
