It's appears to be the same setup as the original core set, but features the new T-70 X-Wing and First Order TIEs, with some new cards, too. link On the list… |

Sadly for tournament play, the TIE Fighters and especially the X-Wings of the original core set have been obsolete for awhile. Escalating power creep in each new wave has made Luke and Wedge poor choices to fly in an X-Wing tournament!!! O_o The new versions and new pilots based on the upcoming movie bring them up to the current state of power creep in the game, so they should be viable for another year and a half…. But the new models are pretty ^,^ |

What the hell is a T-70 X-Wing? Not a fan of the new Tie color scheme, but perhaps it will grow on me. Are these uprated Ties too? |

Uprated TIEs? Yep – the high pilot skill one has a 4th hull point, and it looks like a single shield too, so much less fragile. The T-70 is new, but evidently just a next gen X-Wing – stats don't look majorly buffed, but it has a boost action, and I'd guess maybe a better maneuver dial. It also looks rather spiffy – not sure about the TIEs yet – white seems weird, but I agree that scheme might be a grower – it's interesting – I'm just not sure if it's good…. |

Thanks for the info Dom. I do like the blue paint scheme on the T-70. |

These are models of the fighters in the upcoming movie, which are based on 70's concept art. Various concepts were drawn before we got the actual original film models. Both fighter have new maneuvers on their dials, fancy variations of the K-turn. The TIE /FO has a speed 2 'Segnor's Loop' – use the 45 bank template and flip the model 180 at the end. The T-70 X_Wing has a speed 3 'Tallon Roll' – use the 90 turn template, but place the side of the base flat against the end of the template so the model flips 180 compared to its original facing. The base can be positioned anywhere along the end of the movement template just like with a barrel-roll. |

Just saw that Target is carrying these AND they have a current "spend $50 USD save $10 USD, spend $100 USD save $25 USD" coupon deal for Star Wars merchandise. The sets are $39.99 USD., so on two you'd save $5 USD each, on three you'd save $8.33 USD each. Why buy that many sets? Well, individual fighters are $15 USD each from most sources, but 3 come in a core set, plus you get extra dice & templates. You do the math. |

There's a new Damage Deck in this too that replaces the old one. |

I look at it like transitioning from WWII to the Korean War. The new stuff keeps getting better, and the old stuff gets relegated to the scrap yard. You could always limit your friendly games to specific time periods. Fact is, do we even know if Luke and Wedge are still flying fighters in the next movie, or are we looking at a whole new set of heroes? |

It looks like they are also using this opportunity to revise the rule books and update them to the current, Learn to Play rules, and seperate Rules Reference Book format. |

Great info thanks MiniMo – that Tallon Roll sounds fearsomely useful. :-) |

I really like the new look Tie but I can understand why everyone might not be as open; I see it a little like the early Nazi's beginning the war with a dull grey armor look that over time evolved into a more flamboyant style and colour (ok I realize there was functionality to the changes there but I think there was a certain amount of inner-directed vain glory too)…I think if the movie is as impressive as I hope then the new look might really break through It's been a long time since I looked forward to a movie as much…my expectations are high so like a skywalker I should brace myself for a high fall :) |

Can Luke even pass a spacefighter piloting license test? He is getting on in years. I mean, look what happened the last time Han took off in Southern Cal? |

They are certainly nice-looking models. I wish I had less of a "bad feeling about this" about the new movie though. |

"What the hell is a T-70 X-Wing?" The original X-Wings are T-65Bs, if that helps any. |

I like the new X-Wing model, but I'm not crazy about the new TIE. I'm trying to keep my expectations low for the new movie. |

For everyone worrying about the new film, just cast your mind back to 1999. If you survived that disappointment, Disney have no chance of breaking your spirit…. |
