Just checking details here, but can anyone point me in the right direction for the specific weapons used in the Egyptian-Ottoman wars of 1831-33 and 1839-41? I understand that the Egyptians manufactured their own muskets, but were these copies of European models? Any information and pointers gratefully received ! Mike. PS – I also already have information about the Prussian reformed Turkish artillery… but again, something on the Egyptian pieces would be good to have ! |

Yes The Egyptian army of the period that covered the GWI were armed with French pattern muskets. I was and am one of the sponsors of a range produced in 28mm by Steve Barber which includes an Egyptian Infantryman covering the period you mention |

Thanks. Yes, I`ve found some information in publications of the 1830`s and 1840`s. Those did mention a French musket, but also a small number of English muskets that were remounted. Do they also do artillery? I believe French pattern cannons were made at the cannon foundry too. A 4pdr was mentioned also but I thought this was an earlier piece. |

I have also heard that, there is a good pic in the NYDPL of an Egyptian crew with what appears to be either a 6 or 12pdr |

6 or 12pdrs… I`m assuming these are the Valee system guns? I understand that the Prussians, set to reforming the Ottoman artillery, also introduced some contemporary French artillery pieces. |

actually I found the Valee system had 8 and 12 pounders… so possibly the 6`s are British? Anyways, looking now, just out of curiosity to find out what the French model muskets used by the Egyptian infantry were. Was this a copy of the Charleville musket, the modified Model 1826? |
