Considering these rules but want to know how issuing orders work. My club doesn't do written orders too well. We like to talk to the guy who is standing right next to you. Not interested in that level of simulation.

Essentially it is a written orders system BUT you can make the orders as simple as Attack or Defend. Then changing orders requires work and a die roll.

You might try something quite different. Cold Steel & Cannister, played on grids. Every division has an objective toward which it must move. Changing orders is essentially moving the objective.

Obviously on defense you just sit on your objective….

Played it once and it gives a really great feel….

You can play the rules without the written orders. They are very general orders to Major Forces (i.e.divisions) such as Defend, Attack the chateau, etc.

As I said, you can completely ignore them. Just skip that step in the turn. Even if you do use them, very often the initial order given at the beginning of the game is never changed.
