It's still a little early here – 0530 hours, leaving for work – stand alone rules or a supplement requiring core/base rules too, please? |

Supplement needing rules. |

THANKS guys! We tried very hard to make sure this was going to be a help for new and veteran Pulp Alley players alike. Yes, this is an expansion for our Pulp Alley rules. It is not a stand-alone game. More to come… Dave Pulp Alley

Moved from active to inactive buying lists. Too bad, it sounded very good. |

I'm guessing--from looking at the Table of Contents, that the only thing else needed to play is what's available in the free Quickplay and card set downloads. Is that right? |

@ Whenever1 --- Yes, I think you're correct for the most part. You'd just be missing the scenarios from the basic book and stealth rules, but that's all I can think of at the moment. Hi. When it says "Pulp Leagues is also a compilation of our Pulp Alley character types, perks, abilities, and resources previously published in our rulebook and expansions", what does it mean exactly? Does it supercede any of the earlier supplements? If I am starting out, should I work towards eventually buying all of supplements: Rulebook Perilous Island Pulp Gadgets, Guns and Vehicles Vice Alley Pulp Leagues What would you suggest for group stating out? Also what cards would I need apart from the Fortune Deck? Thanks James |

James, It would certainly help a group starting out to have at least one copy of the rules . . . although between the free "starter" version and "Pulp Leagues" most info will be covered. I have everything that you have listed . . . admittedly only in .pdf version because I live in a part of the world where postal charges are nasty. I do not use the Gadgets, Guns and Vehicle book at all . . . mainly because I do not have any vehicles . . . for me this is the least useful book and it is one that you could always add later. The big question is between "Perilous Island" and "Vice Alley". First let me say the I find both to be excellent. You cannot go wrong with either one. The deciding factor in choosing between them has to do with their settings. "Perilous Island" is set in a number of locations around the world . . . and mostly these are in remote locations that require few buildings . . . the terrain changes, but is not for the most part too demanding. "Vice Alley" on the other hand, is set in 'King City'. The group will need to build a bunch of 'city buildings' in preparation for this campaign. It also requires a fair number of "NPC figures" . . . so in terms of terrain and figures it will require more work before running. On the plus side, Vice Alley seems to be a very flexible campaign and I like it a lot. It should provide a much richer campaign because of the growing familiarity with continuing locations and NPCs. Both are very good . . . it depends upon which one your "Game Master" feels more comfortable with in terms of hosting requirements and of course the desire of your group. I hope that this helps. -- Jeff

Thanks Jeff. I have the free starter PDF already. I definitely prefer Perilous Island over Vice Alley -will better suit the games I want to run. You seem to be suggesting to get the new Pulp League book over the original Pulp Alley rulebook? Thanks James |

And if I can ask a second question of those who already have Gadgets, Guns and Vehicle book: what guns are included? Not the in-game stats but just gun names to get a feel for what extra depth this supplement adds. Thanks James |

I don't have time to dig it out because my opponent for a Pulp Alley game is due in about 8 minutes. However as I recall the "Guns" refers more to crew-fed machine guns and artillery types. All "small arms" are considered to be too similar to each other in the genre that all are treated as the same. Remember this is pulp fiction, not historical accuracy. However, if you have a nice set of in-scale vehicles, the supplement might be of good value to you. But for most published scenarios, this supplement would not be needed. If you are wondering about the differences between a .45, a .38, a 9mm, a 12-gage and a .30-06 . . . as far as the rules are concerned there really isn't any per se . . . it is how you flesh the characters out that make the difference, not the props. -- Jeff

James, Sorry, I skipped over your question on cards earlier. The basic Deck is fine . . . but the cards that they have added do make play richer and less predictable. Since our postal rates are so ruinous here in Canada, I have gone the route of using the .pdf version of the cards. I print them off and insert them in individual 'card sleeves' along with an ordinary playing card (to help keep things more uniform). Between adding more basic cards (most of the added cards have been 'twos' or 'threes', so I added some more 'ones') and the various new cards that have been posted plus a few "Phantom Agent" cards, my current deck is about 95 cards. You don't need a deck this large . . . but having more options means more fun. -- Jeff
