To buy or not to buy…

Thanks in adavnce. :-)

Great board, terrain, blocks, and decals. I personally can't stand the rules so I use my own miniatures rules. Works great. Quick and cheap way to get into Napoleonics. With the expansions and the homemade decals guys post you can have every army on the planet from 1796-1815.

Excellent rules and a vast collection of scenarios.

The rules are certainly not perfect, but they are no less realistic than most miniature rules, and much more playable.

It's great to be able to take down and put a battle in 10 minutes instead of the hours it takes to dismantle a big miniatures game. I still prefer miniatures.

Played it a lot, a decent game even if it suffers from some silliness due to the basic CnC/Battle cry resolution sequence. We play it with 15mm toys on Hexon terrain.

Buy

I play it with 6mm figures on the GHQ terrain maker hexes. It works well.

I like it and the ancient version as well. Easy way to get a couple of games in over a afternoon or evening.

Like, so I would say "buy"

I've only played it once, but I enjoyed it.

"Buy"

I enjoy it -- it's quick to set up and play compared to a full miniatures game (even when using miniatures for CC:N) as someone noted.

Here's link to a recent game of mine -- if you scroll down to the end to "final thoughts" you might find that helpful. I won't be giving up my standard games for this, but it's a great way to get a game in when time is limited.

I like it but would use Blucher now, lots of scenarios and has a better feel for the topic with a similar rules overhead.

coopman28 Aug 2015 3:17 p.m. PST

CC:N is a lot easier to comprehend and play than "Blucher" is, in my opinion.

bobhewson28 Aug 2015 4:25 p.m. PST

I played one game with Command and Colours. For me, it didn't produce a game with an authentic Napoleonic "feel". I personally wouldn't buy it. But then, having bought Blucher and tried it, I'm not too sure I would buy that either ;)

Another strong buy recommendation.

Most of my old time wargaming friends hate the system, but it is designed As a quick game with simple set up and takedown. The game delivers fun under those intended design criteria. It is a game for an evening when a traditional miniatures game would take too much set up and play.

Buy, don't understand the haters…… The end battle results reflect a full blown 75 page 900 figure Napoleonic game, only in about 75-90 minutes. I do tweak musketry cause it is APOCALYPTIC! my opinion only. It's soooo easy to get a screw driver and tweak this or that and not ruin the essence of the game design at all. My advice? Buy the ancient core game (Punic war) at the same time buy the Napoleonic core game (Pennisula war). They play very very different. If you don't like one or the other, let me know, I need a travel set of each but I doubt you will be disappointed.
