The NAM in London is looking for "heritage helpers" to assist in transcribing the hordes of documents in its archives that relate to the Waterloo campain/period. They vary from admin paperwork, to letters and diaries, and whilst mostly in English, include documents in French, Dutch, German and Gaelic. Volunteers are sent electronic scans, which they then transcribe according to set guidelines, and the completed documents will eventually all be placed on-line for easy access to the public at large. At the same time, the NAM also wants volunteers for focus groups to test what it plans to look like and offer to the public when it re-opens in 2016 (this is obviously aimed at UK residents, but the Waterloo project could be undertaken by anyone). I've put my hand up for the focus groups etc. Will be nice to get involved with the project – if they pick me, of course! |

Will they pay for my flight and lodging from the USA? Just kidding. |

The Heritage Helpers website that it sends you to is a nightmare. Constant problems logging in, passwords, user names. It certainly doesn't encourage the people trying to hep. |
