I've just finished re-touching some old 15mm WWII G.I.s ; you can take a look below:

Can anybody share any useful techniques for going back to old miniatures and renovating them?

Saying that, do many people return back to old work to improve it at all?

Good work. Those are nice big bases, too. What system are they for?

I occasionally fix up my older ancients paint jobs when I add a new batch to an army. They don't look as nice as your work though, I can tell you that!

With mine it's usually a wash, a highlight or two, or maybe a nicer job on the shields.

I have done that with most of my 1980s Napoleonic Minigs as I rebased them. Taking them off thier old bases was the hardest part and messy. After that was done I just did some touch up or total repaint of the figures. Paint adhered really well and I dull coated them afterwards. Something I didnt do in the 80s. Brought back some fond memories of early gaming with a buddy when I was stationed in Germany. Your work is nicely done.

I have never gone back to touch up. Too many unpainted figures to get done.

Thanks Mr Achilles and Larry,
I've discovered a set of rules called 'look sarge no charts WWII'. I was drawn to the rules as they use dice in a similar fashion to 'command and colours'. The bases I liked as the game system uses 3in wide bases to place all the unit data on the back of the base. Each base represents a platoon.
This also suits the fact that I like the Impetus style basing where you can create mini dioramas.. Take a look at

Thanks Foxgamer, will follow that up. Good luck with the rest of the job. Have added you to my bloglist, so will watch with interest.

Cheers,
Aaron

If the re-touching is because elbows and protrusions have been worn then scratch the area with a blade or similar so that the new paint keys in those high "rub" zones.
