Patrick Sexton and his chaps from Chicago came up with some ideas for specialist vehicles for Slammers and I've worked on the ideas today and put up some material on the Slammers web site for people to peruse and try out.

They are on this page: link

It's all about (as the title suggest) Combat Engineers, Recovery Vehicles, Ambulances and with a bit on bunker busting rockets and mine clearing.

Give them a spin and pass on any feedback you like before they get added to a supplement at some point in the future.

Cool! Being a former combat engineer, I love seeing people pay more attention to the role of sappers on the battlefield. I wrote up some engineer rules for Wessex Games' Iron Cow rules, which you can find here:

Have you given any thought to scatterable mines (FASCAM, ADAM/RAAM, Volcano, etc.)? Those might throw a twist into your game!

Not really Javelin. The rules for mines are relatively simple.

I'll have a look at your stuff when I get a moment.

@Leland: problem is that the slammer's arty has so much recoil that the vehicles need to be grounded with the fans locked to avoid breaking things.

Now, the DP9/Heavy Gear Earthie arty fires on the move, using a computer-controlled jump to create a time-on-target barrage from a single gun.

I've just noticed this post, how it slipped by I have no idea I must be getting old, as it just so happens I started putting together a generic CEV detachment some time ago using those old but trusted Matchbox toys 2x Alvis trucks and a 8x wheeler crane I guess its time I finished them off, painted them up and used them in a game to try out these optional rules out which I think look pretty solid. :) Zac

Zac

You're not the only one to suggest a full detachment of these things, rather than penny-packeting them out to separate detachments as individual extra vehicles.

Another suggestion I had discussed was a separate 'Troop', as in half a detachment led by a sarge in a command vehicle:

4 vehicles for Elites – with a command vehicle plus a single ARV, single CEV and single Ambulance

5 for Veterans – with a command vehicle plus a two ARV's, single CEV and single Ambulance

8 for Trained – with a command vehicle plus a two ARV's, two CEVs two Ambulances and a comms jeep or similar from the regular list

15 for Untrained – with a command vehicle and command support vehicle (ie another command vehicle: cheap, low tech equipment is big!), plus a four ARV's, three CEVs four Ambulances and two comms jeeps (or similar) from the regular list.

Anyway, I'm planning a test in the next couple of weeks but – anyone else who tries any of this – please do tell me how you get on.
