And I've been following your work for five years, too. Makes me smile to see all those ships in one photo.

The family photo at the top really shows off the effectiveness of the colour scheme, love it!

You shame me sir. My fleets are no where near as nicely painted. Oh well! I have lots of unpainted fleets yet to practice on.

Do you plan to do more fleets?

I hate the sound of my jaw dropping to the floor…

Thanks everyone!

I'm not planning on starting a new fleet anytime soon, but I do have a couple of unpainted Sathar vessels from Star Frontiers, a few primed alien ships from Stardate:3000, and several Entomalians to add to my Starfleet Wars collection.

Meanwhile, I have posted some more pics of the painted ships I have right now. Here's a sample:

That is a very impressive collection.

Even better than in the retail hobby shop that used to carry them back in the day.

Must get some, when funds permit.

BlackWidowPilot Fezian26 Aug 2015 3:45 p.m. PST

@Mako11, I feel your pain! Waaaay back in the day when these first came on the market and were carried by a local hobby shop I pined away fogging up the display case glass looking at them but never having the funds to buy more than a few of the destroyer models (which I later sold off at a flea market for reasons now best forgotten).

I kept my eyes peeled for any that might have turned up at convention flea markets, and picked up a mere handful here and there over the years, odds and ends of the five ranges capped off by a Terran superdreadnought for all of $3.00 USD at a flea market from a former hobbyshop employee who'd placed it in a big figure grab box(!!!).

Years later I met Bill Char, who had inexplicably managed to locate and purchase the moulds and the rights to the entire line plus the MAATAC ground combat range!! In return for my then level of painting skills Bill very generously resupplied me with enough ships to outfit a terrifying Terran fleet, round out my Aquarian squadron into a proper task force, and build up a potent Entomalian and Carnivorian task forces while I was at it, plus a small but feisty Avarian battle squadron.

Bill then sold them along to MondayKnight Productions, who have brought these classics back to those of us who missed out on them the first time around, and new generations we faithful followers can introduce to these wonderful expressions of the creative modelmaker's art done in an Old School fashion through kitbashing.

At the very least, start with a four ship cruiser squadron, then build up from there. At least you'll have a perfectly useful gaming squadron with some teeth and enough speed to get a bite or three in against even a larger capital ship or two!evil grin

Leland, do you have an email for Bill Char? I'd like to interview him about his experience with the Starfleet Wars and MAATAC lines.

BlackWidowPilot Fezian26 Aug 2015 10:11 p.m. PST

Alas, I lost contact with Bill more than. Few years ago when last I knew he'd moved back to Hawaii… I'll see if I can rescue something from the deepest depths of my email boxes… Stay tuned as I engage in a summoning ritual that is best not witnessed by the faint of heart!evil grin
