For those who love Japanese history, NHK has a new historical series on the way.

Yae's Sakura (八重の桜)

"Yae's Sakura" tells the story of Niijima Yae, also known as Yamamoto Yaeko, who was born into the Aizu Domain during the late Edo period. Skilled in gunnery, she helped defend Aizu during the Boshin War, earning her the nickname of the "Bakumatsu Joan of Arc." After the war, she married educator Joseph Hardy Neesima (Niijima Jo) and became a Christian, and she helped Neesima found Doshisha University."

It can be viewed on Dramafever.com, here:

Years ago one of the local channels would show historical series produced by NHK. Nowadays they show movies set in modern times. I miss watching those series.

Try to find the 2004 series "Shinsengumi!' starring Katori Shingo as Kondo Isami.
