Leland has been at the paint fumes again… Actually, it's the Merlot that's responsible (but the outcome is often the same)…

@ExtraCrisy with Fries: Because they're slackers! @Ditto: It's not just the camo, and I was inspired by the assorted assault guns such as the Stug III and SU-85 and 100 in designing the original anti grav panzerknackers that these are based on…. plus there's a SP RAM howitzer variant as well, a Brumbar analogue on a maglev drive if you will… @I WISH somebody would do a few not-Gene Wilder figures, including The Waco Kid, Sherlock Holme's Smarter Brother, and of course the Young Dr. FrankenSTEEN…. @LFSweeny: all will be revealed very soon I am told…
@Jericho: Igor never forgets the bayonets! Its the dratted disruptor grenades that he keeps leaving lying around the workshop that are the problem… I mean, we lose more Minions that way….

I remember these salad tub container scratch builds, I must say they look very alien to me and could easily be used in almost any alien force, I noticed there are two different variants is the box backed version an APC and the other a straight up MBT? :) Zac |
BlackWidowPilot | 24 Aug 2015 8:29 a.m. PST |
@John Treadaway: The parts count is IIRC the body of the beast, two ball mounted gatling guns, a rear deck passenger compartment piece or powerplant cover depending upon the version you're building, and a front weapon barrel or in the case of the APC a twin minigun blister for a total of five (5) parts. The final layout as to how many bits come in the kit will be up to my partner in nefariousness, who will be making a formal announcement fairly soon… @RebelMike, thank you! Coming from you such praise is no small praise at all… seriously. @AVAMANGO, actually, they were old 1960s-vintage Aurora model airplane flight stand bases. Back in the later Permian Epoch when I was a spratling plastic model airplane kits always included a plastic flight stand, and more than a few of them were made in a rather "futuristic" or some such style such as these. I was given a box of '60s and '70s vintage model bits by a friend a number of years ago, and there were three of these bases amongst all the other intriguing bits of things plastic and ancient. I got to looking at the Swedish Army's Stirdswagen again, and some turned brass gun barrels from Combat Wombat, and I was building up my 15mm sci-fi contingents, wanted some armored AT capability for some human infantry that didn't walk on legs or have a turret, and one thing led to another:
There'll be an APC with the boxed back passenger compartment, several flavors of the panzerjager, and a SP RAM howitzer "Brumbar" variant as well. We've also been discussing a couple of other nasty spin-offs for later down the road if these take off.

Leland jumped the gun just a little. I was going to tease everyone with various silhouettes, then the 3d model, then painted examples, but perhaps it is better this way! When I first saw Lelands scratch builds I just had to see if he'd let me fiddle with them and put them into production! (And these aren't the only ones…) So he sent me one of his PRECIOUS, we chatted, and I went to work. These beasties are pretty large, about the same body length as the Dark Star LODAVs (Puma and S'Orhan). They are intended to be part of an upcoming canine based race, and more than just the 2 platforms shown are planned. The tank will be 7 parts (hull, 2x ball guns, sensor remote, and 3 optional guns: canon, rail gun, and BFC) while the APC version will be 5 parts (hull, 2x ball guns, sensor remote, and front gun pod/smoke discharger). I'm not super happy about how the sensor remote turned out, it's really tiny and looked much better on screen. Might make a new one, slightly larger that fits better into the TC dome craddle. But the best part of all of this is that Leland will receive a royalty on each unit sold! So, when they come out, buy lots! And if the demand is great enough, might even make 6mm versions… More to come! |

Very cool! Can't wait to see some of these, but I gotta get the guys into 15mm scifi first. |
BlackWidowPilot | 27 Aug 2015 4:18 p.m. PST |
Lion, just a thought, do they like tanks? 15mm is IMHO an excellent scale for armored warfare…. Just steal a few real tank fights from WW2 and substitute some sci-fi armor analogues and good set of fast-play rules… Leland R. Erickson Metal Express metal-express.net |
Lion in the Stars | 28 Aug 2015 7:40 p.m. PST |
Oh, yeah, two of the guys are major treadheads. One loooooves his big cats in Flames of War, has all the shenanigans. I should poke the guys and see if they like the Hammers Slammers books. |

No John, the K'hiff are their own. These dudes will be a new race, more Vargrish. That sounds to me like a jolly good reason to bring the K'Hiff to 15mm. There are other canine-ish races in 15mm but the K'Hiff would offer something quite distinct in style. |
BlackWidowPilot | 29 Aug 2015 2:05 p.m. PST |
IIRC the K'Hiff will be coming out in 15mm, so it's going to be "Who Let The Dogs Out?!" at DSG in the very near future… Leland R. Erickson Metal Express metal-express.net |
Darkest Star Games | 31 Aug 2015 7:54 a.m. PST |
…and the K'Hiff have their own style of grav tanks on the way (upsized from the 6mm line) so a plethora of Canidae proceeding amok there will be, indeed! |
