Has anyone got a good trick to apply shield transfers to curved shields? I never seem to be able to do it without getting little creases.

Are you using decal setting solution(s)? Pretty good tutorial here:

I have had good success with cutting the transfers a little bit down the middle – from the center hole up a little and down a little. It's scary, but it has worked.

Decal solutions over a good surface: gloss varnish or future work well.

One that I've seen used rather well is to take a chunk of plastic tack or similar kneadable stuff as many use to keep minis secure during painting. Work it soft and take some of the plastic wrap/ceran wrap and a blank shield of the type you want to mount the decals on.

Make a mold of the shield in the plastic tack through the wrap, you can mess up a few times, but you want a clean impression.

Let it sit for a while and let the tack go back to a more firm form. Use the casting along with your transfers in order to match it up better. Varnish in place.

I cut mine like idontbelieveit does. Mine have a cut out for the shield boss so, one cut will allow the transfer to overlap itself. All but impossible to find the splice.

I cut the perimeter a few times – not sure if that's better or worse than cutting it once?

I think Borathan may have seen something I posted about back in the day- this works Barry:

If you are going to do a lot of the same shield, it may be worth making a negative cast of the shield in greenstuff and use this to press the designs into place.

Thanks everyone. I've ordered some microsol, let you know how good that is. Simon, the shields in question are of the hoplite type for my Carthaginian Sacred Band. I like the idea of a negative cast but when I have done the Foundry Frank shield before its so convex I get really bad creases. Apparently this micro solve dissolves the this plastic film. We'll see!

Hi Barry, I have a lot of hoplite shields to do myself (for the WHC), so please let me know how it goes! Best, Simon
