Can anybody advise me who makes the best figures for this period/nation please? |

If I get around to doing it I am going to use Victrix. They look good and seem be planning everything needed. Michael. |

The Mark Sims sculpts are my favourite. He did the ranges for A&A Miniatures and the Crusader lines. These ranges mirror each other, spearmen in linothorax, in chain and veterans in chain. Whule they look identical, there is a slight difference in bulk that you can only really notice at painting distance. The major differences are the horses used for cavalry, Crusaders range use a different horse that is larger and imho better. Old Glory does a great range of Punic spearmen as well, though the other parts of that range aren't that great, again only my opinion. Gripping Beast have a large range too, a matter of opinion but it doesn't do it for me that much. Both A&A and Crusader offer Numidian foot and light cav, though I much prefer Foundry's range of Numidians. For Spanish, you have Mark's ranges from both A&A and Crusader but I'm partial to the Foundry range as well. Celts, you've so many good options. I'm not a fan of Marks Celts, especially the A&A ones. The well fed look of his Carthaginians doesn't work when used for Celts, but it's still a solid line. My least favourite are the Victrix plastics, though that is solely because I'm over assembling plastic multi part figures. |

Apart from the above good suggestions have a look at Renegade – large 28mm. Agema make plastic and metal figures for Carthage, with elephants on the way. Foundry provide other choices – their 'pikemen' are best used as Punic spearmen not pikemen and the 'characters' will offer variation to the phalanx. For some useful hints ask Mr Google – "Carthaginian 28mm" – throws up lots of painted examples of various manufacturers. |

For the carthegenians themn self I would go with Victrix, For spanish I would wait for the victrix out soon, or use Relic. Aventine makes great figures and you could use their vetrans there(sadly the never expanded their carthageinians range) Aventine greek heavy cav can also work well for carthagenian cav. |

Wonderful timing for this post – i have spent a lot of the weekend looking. McWong. Can you (or anyone else) shed any light on the relative size of the Foundry Spanish and Numidians agains the Crusader / A&A ones. Love the look of those Foundy ranges but also really like the Crusader Cathaginians and some of their Spanish Thanks |

roundie, love your work. No question the Sims sculpts are well fed troops compared to Foundry. And taller. Mounted figures not so much I've found, but then you have the problem of the horses. InFoundry make sure you're looking at the Copplestone sculpts from the Caesarian Roman range. The Foundry Carthaginian range is old and quite small. I've got Crusader for my Numidians and Spanish because it's what I can get in Australia. I've got a small number of Foundry as well, if I could get those locally I probably would have, especially the Spanish. |

Aventine have figures that would do very nicely for Carthaginian cavalry; nice horses, too. They are compatible with Victrix/Foundry/Crusader. |
