I dusted off my Saga Vikings the other night and played a quick game.

Good game. Can you tell me about those grass mats please? They look very effective.

Grass or guinea pig?

The grass mat is just a piece of faux fur from Michaels Craft store. They're about 12x10" or so. I cut "paths" through them with hair clippers and scissors, but left some of it long. Then I airbrushed it various shades of green, yellow and brown.
I can take more pics of you need, or if you have any more questions please ask.

Your shade work on the mats with the airbrush is great. Really good blending. What sort of paints did you use and did it effect the behavior of the fur – did it stiffen much?

General,

I used Vallejo Air Color. I just picked an ochre color, a grassy green, a dark green, a dark brown and a lighter brown. I diluted each color pretty well with straight Windex. Initially it did stiffen, but I ran an old comb through it as it was drying to loosen it and also blend it a bit. after a minute or so it was relatively soft and fluffy again.
