After being caught up with WW2 gaming at the club for a while, I started to look back into doing more samurai stuff. When discussing online about making more 28mm scale houses, I was asked how I made tatami mats for my houses. The honest answer was that I never reall did any good tatami mats! I could merely make quite bad looking floors with foam board.

So, without any good ideas how to do it otherwise, I decided to try to make tatami mats in green stuff, and cast them in resin.

Green stuff master. The first attempt was… not so good.

I'm going to make several different ones, as it was common to have half-mats both with and without a fireplace.

I used the Kyoto size which is just under two meters long and one meter wide, and measured it in 1/56 scale, which should suit 28mm well. I gave the first test a very quick and dirty paint job, but I think I might be on to a solution for my tatami mat needs.

Now I just need to make a house for them to fit in, to see if they actually work. :)
