Wargames, Soldiers, & Strategy magazine #80 features the 1st Punic War!

link

Included is historical write up of Bagradas and the game using DBA 3.0.

Internet raconteur and general good guy Pat Lowinger is the author… I might have helped a bit with the game. (I hope he edited the part I wrote!)

Anyway… you will see our thoughts on running this battle using Historical DBA 3.0 as a well as play-through with photographs…

Special thanks to Cigar Box Battles for hosting!

Eeekkk! 5 Elephants in one command! Yes, the North African Elephant panzer division on the table.

Please check out this issue…

Joe-

Is Historical DBA 3.0 a specific variant?

Your link is coming up "404"

I think this is what you wanted?

I think he means "Historical DBA" to differentiate playing in-period as opposed to so many of us playing our crazy "Crusaders versus Early Sumerians" games. Battle cars against Knights, yeah!

Thanks for updating the link… strange… it worked the other two places I pasted it…

Rich:

Historical DBA is included in the DBA 3.0 rules. It is a variant of Big Battle DBA. You basically use historical OB and victory conditions.

Some of us will be publishing a book of Historical battle scenarios for DBA 3.0 later this year.

I did not pay attention enough to realize that playing scenarios had a specific title. That is kind of goofy if you think about it, in that a stranger to the hobby would think the starting point for historical war gaming rules would be scenarios, and that hypothetical match-ups using points would be the appendix.

Well put, Rwphillipsstl … but what we have inherited is indeed the goofy version thumbs up!
