So my local Hobbytown was holding a "get this stuff out of our store so we don't need to pay to move it" sale, and I collected a pretty good batch of Zvesda 1/72 Samurai (for ~$2.50 a box!). aside from buying more Zvesda, who else makes good 20mm or 1/72 samurai? plastic or metal, I don't care. |

Redbox in plastics. Newline Designs in metal. Early samurai (about 1250: mongol invasions) from Tumbling Dice in metal. Hope it helps. Enric. |

Great, thanks! Feels kinda weird getting into 20mm, but I just could NOT walk away from that sale without any samurai. And I'm definitely going to have to check out the Tumbling Dice samurai, I much prefer the Gempei War to Mongol Invasions era to the Warring States. |

I have quite a few 1/72 Tumbling Dice early samurai and they have some nice lively poses enhanced by being multi-part for added variation, although that may put some people off. The TD site isn't very informative but Hagen Miniatures carry the range and have been adding more and more photos recently. The early samurai and Yuan Mongol/Chinese are in the "C 1250 Crusades" section: link BTW the following isn't intended as nit-picking but 1/72 scale isn't really 20mm although the terms are often used interchangeably. On their own site, TD refer to their 1/72 range as "classic" or "true" 25mm measuring to the top of the head and about 23mm to eye level. PSR reviews would seem to comfirm this is about average these days for plastic figs though scale creep has led to some much larger… tumblingdiceuk.com This can save costly mistakes as TD also make a 20th century range in what the call "true" 20mm and these are much smaller than the 1/72 figures, being more compatible with 18mm (or "big" 15mm) measured to eye level. Just to confuse things further TD also refer to these as 1/76 scale but when I bought some samples at a show before I knew better, they appear much smaller than that. The TMP ref page on scales would put them closer to between 1/80 – 1/87 : TMP link |

Have you compared the TD 1/76 scale troops against some current big 15mm or 18mm troops? |

Have you compared the TD 1/76 scale troops against some current big 15mm or 18mm troops? Here's a quick comparison shot of a few figures close to hand
From left to right: 1) Zvezda 1/72 WW1 Russian Infantry 2) Tumbling Dice 1/72 Yuan Infantry 3) Airfix HO/OO (1/87-1/76) Luftwaffe Personnel 4) Tumbling Dice 20mm Interwar Red Army Infantry 5) Tin Soldier 15/18mm Samurai 6) Lancashire Games 15/18mm Samurai This why I don't buy stuff based only on a maker's description anymore… |

Thank you! Looks like those will be just fine next to big 15mm troops. |
