Hi. I was just given masses of War of the Roses Revenge miniatures from a generous friend which included Welsh spearmen and I have a few basic questions. Spears must be added so I was wondering how long their spears should be? Did they appear in distinctive colours? Livery(I doubt that, they look pretty ragged)? Where did they fight? Did they fight as pike or spear?
Also: Were Irish troops, Galloglasse and Kern, involved in the War of the Roses? In Ireland or England?
Thank you.

how long their spears should be?

They're spears, not pikes, so about 10ft.

Did they appear in distinctive colours? Livery(I doubt that, they look pretty ragged)?

We have very little (if any) knowledge on this. If the figures are depicted as ragged then you ca't really paint them in livery. Just go with what you think looks good.

Where did they fight?

The battle of Edgcote is sometimes described as the "Welsh Flodden".

Did they fight as pike or spear?

They're armed with spears, so fight as spears.

EDIT: removed comment about Irish troops

Irish troops fought at Mortimer's Cross.

Stoke as well.

Bother! I always seem to forget about the Irish at Mortimer's Cross. Some will argue that Stoke is outside the period, but there were indeed Irish there too.

The Welsh were a mix, the Tudors were Welsh after all!
The poorer infantry would have been very 'Dark Ages' coloured clothing, I imagine, and would have the longish spear mentioned above, if not using War Bows (Longbow), or possibly improvised weapons for the very poorest.

Thats what I would do anyway….
