This is kinda of the opposite of a miniature, since it is making a microscopic creature about 200x bigger. Does that make it a maxiture?

It is a fun idea that I got my husband to foolishly agree to :)

I think you're going to need all the luck in the world with a $50,000.00 USD pledge goal!

Good luck with this venture!!

I love Tom's miniatures, but I have to say that 50k is just silly. Still, best of luck!

I would have guessed that the finished thing will retail for about $50 USD, being a 4.5" Tom Meier resin miniature. So, $50,000 USD is really just retail for 1,000 of them, which seems like a reasonable number for an initial production run. However, they will be $100 USD each, for a 500 unit run instead.

Too rich for my blood…

Mr Meier's a phenomenal sculptor and this is a particulary winsome tardigrade, but being a man of modest tastes I'd happily settle for one of these:

Interesting that the tardigrade model Norman links to is both a fifth the size and a fifth the cost of Tom's. Perhaps there is a universal constant tardigrade pricing schedule based on size?

Definitely an interesting creature, but seems pretty easy to sculpt in clay.

Making the claws would be the hard part, especially if you want to keep them from breaking.

I'd want some sinister eyes, and a mouth with razor-sharp teeth added.

Okay, then.

This is Tom using my wife's account, there is some kind of problem with mine. I made this for Carin's birthday, I got the idea from some polyclay monsters my kids bought at Gencon and a 'Live Tiny, Die Never' Tardigrade T-shirt my wife likes. Some of her computer friends said they would like one and she asked me what it would take for me to make one for production. I set the price and target high because I don't want to do it but didn't just want to say no for obvious reasons. She already accuses me of crushing her dreams for not filling the yard with goats and making a goat tower folly for them to climb on.

If I DO have to make another one of these things I will do a much more polished job.

The last kickstarter idea she had was to make a life-sized bust of Kevin Bacon out of cheese, I am completely serious.

Carin here: The Kevin Bacon sculpture was a great idea! It got nixed by Tom before it went live last year link

Carin, the goats could use the Kevin Bacon sculpture as a tower to climb on. Don't let Tom suck the joy outta life like he's sucked the money out of my wallet all these years! :^)

Well, If you get close I will join the insanity. I have no idea why other than I am a bit insane…

I think the original gift was awesome all by itself. As befitting one of best miniature sculptors in my life time (well, IMO, the best.)

The only sculptor whose work I have in both 25mm and 15mm. Only two scales left – 6mm and 3mm and I will know I am in war gamer heaven. grin

"Bacon" out of cheese… Well… that sounds some demented treasure room item from an old OD&D DM I played with for a while.

I am not sure the world is ready for a Tardigrade by Tom Meier but we shall see.

Can't blame her on the goats issue.

Just put a tree in the front yard, with low branches. From pics I've seen, they can climb surprisingly well.
