Part Two of my informal post-Historicon survey.

Did anyone attend any of the "War College" lectures at Historicon? If so, how were they?

Even though I spend most of my convention time hosting games and selling figures in the flea market, I always try to stop by at least one lecture. The one that I saw this year was good but attendance was, shall we say, "light." The lecture was in a comfortable room at one of the nearby hotels.

Regardless of attendance, I think the lecture program is one of the best parts of the convention weekend. I just wish I had more time to attend. My thanks to all the speakers and those staff members who organized the program.

We were lucky to drop into a digital sculpting session hosted by Bobby Jackson. Great information. Will definitely look closer at the seminars for future cons.

Jason Salkey put on a great lecture about his time filming the Sharpe movies. He had lots of great slides and then did a Q and A afterwards.

I guess this is really off topic as it was not at Historicon, but rather at the Host. But, with an apology, here goes anyway.

I attended one some years ago on Napoleonic artillery. It was so basic and superficial that I totally wasted my time. There is nothing wrong with a lecture on that level, but it should be advertised as for beginners, or an introductory lecture, or something like that. I would like to have left in the middle, but did not want to be rude to the speaker, particularly as I was in the front row.

I think the War College is a waste of time, money and effort at the HMGS shows. Wargamers take themselves a little too serious sometimes.

"I think the War College is a waste of time, money and effort at the HMGS shows"

But it is consistent with HMGS's status as an educational (and tax-exempt) organization.
