I have finally unpacked all my figures and terrain from Historicon and sent in my games for Fall In! Time for some fun on TMP.

Part One of my informal post-Historicon survey.

Here is where you can talk about your ride home from the convention: the good, the bad and the ugly. Take your pick.

Feel free to add any driving tips for the future.

Thanks.

I keep hearing that the drive from Fredericksburg to Westchester NY is 5 1/2 hours, but in 6 trips (to and from), excluding stops, it has never taken me less than 8 1/2.

Oddball15 Aug 2015 1:54 p.m. PST

Drove from Fredericksburg to Finger Lakes in New York in about 7 hours. No problems.

Fredericksburg to Atlanta in about 11 hours, less than any other HMGS/ East show.

I head north on 81, and avoid 95. A lot easier even if it adds milage.

I managed to pick up a nail on the FCC lot. The tire threw it while I was trying to find a place to pull and patch. It didn't go flat but it did end up witha slow leak. Had to make a bunch of stops to check on it, so 4 hours back to Baltimore. Should have been 3.

Driving back to Baltimore, it usually takes close to 3 hrs. using 301/3. Left later on Sun. than usual. Took 95 and the trip was under 2 hrs. with no traffic hassles.

Since Historicon weekend is my designated "me time," I always like to end the trip with a visit to a historical site that the family would whine their way through. This year it was the Chancellorsville battlefield, followed by surface roads all the way home. The battlefield was hot but interesting, and the meandering drive was a pleasant five hours to Philadelphia.

Left very early on Sunday AM. Breezed up 95 from FBurg, skirted DC to the east, skirted Baltimore to the west, then headed north up 81. It was still 11 hours back to MA.

Am still stuck in traffic on 95. Should be home in 2 or 3 weeks.

My trip home to Ohio was as pleasant as the drive there. I greatly enjoy the drive through the Virginia horse farms.

Nice "mountains" too (but not real mountains like in Wyoming). Altogether a lovely drive. Well, at least until I got within an hour or two of home when the scenery had faded back to zero.

The trouble part is that corridor between Fredricksburg and Occoquan. I lest Saturday night and made it back to Fairfax in an hour…about average.

I've stayed over till Monday the past three years to avoid the Sunday traffic, but decided this year to leave Sunday.

Went 17 to 66 to 81 to 95, took me about 9 hours, not too bad at all, didn't hit any real traffic to speak of, a couple of minor snags here and there.

For future conventions at the FCC, that will be my plan………….

dbf167616 Aug 2015 9:27 a.m. PST

I left Sunday about 9 am. No traffic on I95 north in Va.

capncarp16 Aug 2015 3:51 p.m. PST

DoubleG, if you'd taken 17 to 15, you could have made a pit-stop in Gettysburg. And 15 is mostly 4-lane to Harrisburg.

And Garryowen, "our" mountains are older than "your" mountains. So, Nyaahh, Nyaahh, NYAAAAAHHHHH! ;^Þ~~~~

Sunday – 8.5 hours from Fredericksburg to Watertown via the 17 & 81 – plenty of roadworks on the 81 :-(
Monday – 2 hours to Ottawa, Ontario to drop off some figures and then 1 hour 45 minutes to get home to Montreal.

syracusepops07 Sep 2015 7:32 p.m. PST

PJ, I live in putnam county and my father lives in southern westchester and in 6 trips it has never taken us more than 6 hours. I think it all depends on what time you leave.

On sunday for the return, we are on the road by 9am

Don't worry guys the trip will be shorter soon…………

Garrison174009 Sep 2015 9:12 a.m. PST

Left Fredericksburg at 0600. Arrived home in Lakeland Florida at 1900. It was a good drive with few problems. Twenty six hours round trip, but very much worth it!

Millercop1609 Sep 2015 10:11 p.m. PST

JUSTIN, HOW WAS GUNS I CHECKED THE FACEBOOK PAGE LOOKED LIKE A GREAT TIME. SEE YOU GUYS AT FALL IN. REMEMBER, MOVE HIS…………….

Frederick the not so great10 Sep 2015 7:47 a.m. PST

Convention Center to Falmouth..about 12 minutes.

Bill N11 Sep 2015 9:44 a.m. PST

Don't worry guys the trip will be shorter soon…………

So it is Gettysburg then? Any other venue discussed would be a longer drive for me.

The trips home have not been an issue for me, except for strictly local issues near home. The delays have been on the trip TO FCC, but in part that has been because I have not been able to drive straight there from my home.

TheKing3011 Sep 2015 1:57 p.m. PST

REMEMBER, MOVE HIS…………….
