The third battalion of the 96e Ligne has been the subject of a recent painting tutorial and its completion finishes the regiment as a whole.

The 96e Ligne suffered the most casualties in Ruffin's 1e Division seeing their colonel wounded during the fighting.

Great job Jon. I particularly like the blue you use and was
wondering what shade it was and by which manufacturer.

carojon14 Aug 2015 10:31 a.m. PST

Hi Iceblock, the blue is a base of Vallejo Dark Prussian Blue, mid highlight of Prussian Blue and fished off with a third highlight of Prussian Blue and Off White.

Beautiful work. Inspiring, even!

I'm guessing those are all AB miniatures?

carojon14 Aug 2015 11:46 p.m. PST

Thanks ArkieGamer, much appreciated.

DWilliams, yes no need to guess all my work is detailed on the blog. The figures are AB and the colours are from GMB Flags.

I see you have added some battalion flags in addition to the regimental Eagle. How common were they? I don't know much about them.

Those look great and round off the regiment nicely.

Thanks Colin.

davbenbak, the battalion fanions became common practice once regiments were told to hand in their other Eagles, although it seems that some of the junior battalions may have hung on to them.

They were eventually colour coded with white for second battalions and red for third. These GMB fanions are of an 1815 design but they are so nice I decided to use them for my 1809 chaps, call if artistic licence.

Jonathan, if you need any specific flags designed that GMB don't do I can try and do artwork for you.

Hey Colin, thanks mate. I really appreciate the offer. I saw your work with some very interesting early revolutionary war flags and was impressed.

You might like to have a go at some Spanish new creation infantry banners that I will need to look at. I have been searching the various producers to see what was about, including looking at some Carlist War stuff.

I'll do some more research nearer the time and drop you a note.

Cheers
JJ
