Rebel Miniatures now has Splintered Light's everyday pulp gangsters in 15mm, I supposed with a slightly different skin tone they'll pass as Chinese gangsters who've gone American.

Done traditional wear perhaps some meat cleaver? They have chinese gangsters in 28mm. I recognize the gun toting guys would like regular mobsters with western dress.

I think you'd need some Asian civilians, I can't think of any off-hand that are armed. Museum Miniatures has some Asian civilians, but they're a big 15mm (so 18mm) and I think at best armed with a hoe.

Edit – looks like they have some new fighting peasants:

or their "Chinese hordes with improvised weapons"

Might have been Lancashire I was thinking of too, they have unarmed and armed civilians, I'd say these are more of a true 15mm:

Still not really gangster-armed, but maybe they can be modified.

I too am interested in the answer to this question. I am looking for 15mm Chinese gangsters that can be used as a Chinese Tong force in a wild west skirmish, or slightly later for pulp games.

I was thinking about the same problem. The best I came up with is 15mm Boxers. Probably Old Glory's 15s. They would be more suitable for Tong, I know. Plus the Chinese from Blue Moon wild west set. If I remember, one figure could be sinister Dr Fu Manchu.

Yes I agree best seems to be 15mm old glory boxers but I have found no package pictures. Yes the wild west civilians look good, however that is the only pack I don't have and it seems there are only 1-2 figs in there that fit the bill.

Grrr

Most tong members would NOT be in traditional garb. The whole point of the tongs (like modern street gangs) was to separate members from their previous allegiances. That's why one of the first items in a tong initiation was to cut off the initiate's pigtail.

If there is enough demand, we might look at doing a set…

Tongs began as associations established to assist new Chinese immigrants coming to America and the Tong you joined was usually based on your family name. Not all Tongs went criminal but many did and became quite powerful. My family's Tong back in those days did not while my wife's family Tong did, specializing In drugs and guns running.

The clothing would be based on your finances and standing within the Tong. The ones with higher standing would prefer western dress while those in lower standing and less money would appear more traditional. Weapons would be firearms or a hatchet, often decorated with a strip of cloth (usually red) hanging from the handle, a cleaver would be unlikely. Kung Fu weapons would also be unlikely.

Also as a little known fact, the higher ups in the Tongs would often hire "white" bodyguards In the belief that enemies would be more reluctant to attack them as a death or injury to a white person would involve the police while the death of someone Chinese would not.
