The big fight is fast approaching in my Teen D&D program at the library, and I realize that I'd like to introduce a little bit of a minis fight to the battle. The kids are using the old plastic 25/28mm Ral Partha D&D adventurers (from Dragon Quest and The New Dungeon), unpainted for now, simply for marching order. I'd love to slap an appropriately sized basilisk down for them to ogle and petrify in front of. evil grin.
Catch: I need it by this coming Sunday.
Doesn't have to even be a basilisk as such. Just roughly about twice as long as a 28mm man is tall, and big, and scary. (Heck, a Komodo dragon fig would do…) Plastic (and even painted) is preferable.
Any thoughts of what to look for and where to look?

Have you looked in your local toy store or dollar store for plastic lizard or dinosaur toys?

The Safari Komodo dragon is nice and inexpensive and, if you order soon, will ship in time from Amazon (I'm seeing a price of $8.50 USD)--it is slightly larger than what you're looking for (about 6 inches long).

There are other brands that are inexpensive too, but this one is in-stock. Advice above is good too: craft stores and even big-box stores (Target, WalMart) often have good critters like this in stock.

You should be able to catch a *real* lizard in Tennesee this time of year… free, and has far more "scare" value than ANY miniature ;-)

Check party supply stores for party favors that might work.

Star Wars Clix lizard?

I suspect there are probably one, or more creatures from that range that might work.

I know I got a gila-like lizard from Michael's, not too expensive if you dig up this week's coupon, usually there's a 40% or 50% coupon around.

Maybe one of these

Thanks for the suggestions. I found the Australian "bearded dragon" lizard locally. Great look, but alas, it was only about 2 inches long and less than a 1/2 inch to the top of its head. Not really a scary threat in the scale I need.
Gonna keep looking…

Found this Safari Ltd Toob of Prehistoric Crocodiles:

Perfect length, and I might even be able to do some conversion work to give one eight legs.

Now, do I use the one with all the horns, or another?

Parzival FTW!

I've got 3 tubes of the one Parzival shows. They are a perfect size and menacing.
