My bad. "1998", but there is a certain irony, hainna?

I'd like to think this blast from the past was embarrassing for Ol' Georgie.

If he had any sense, he would have at least TRIED to stay ahead of HBO, at least by one book. Especially since they have more or less caught up.

God knows how much more cash WoW would rake in if it dropped before next season's premiere. Inquiring minds want to know ("I want to know!")

But I don't understand Martin's methods or motivations, and apparently his publisher doesn't give a Bleeped text either way.

As the article points out, this was back when the entire series was supposed to be three books. His publisher wanted seven. We're all paying the price now. :)

The story grew in the telling.

Gruesome indeed.

When the publisher pushed for 7 books, they should have clarified that GRRM needed the plot to work for 7 as well. As is, it's 3 books worth of material stretched, repeated, folded, spindled, and mutilated over twice that many.

It certainly explains why books four and five were filled with plot lines that went nowhere. It felt like he was killing time because he was.

Was that a typo and suppose to be 2098?
