Here's a report with some pictures about my Aspern-Essling game using Command and Colors Napoleonics with 15mm miniatures and a terrain board I made.

Very nice! Lots of too and fro – sounds like a great battle

That game face a nice narrative and good to see the solo mechanic working. I had been just keeping the drawn card hidden until the next turn, but your idea probably makes for better suspense.

Very nice narrative of the battle.

CCN is a great fun game to get people into Napoleonics. The blocks never did it for me either, but at least you can play the games while you paint up what you need…

Great blog and great looking game!

Sorry for maybe silly questions – I am not so much in wargaming, but I am very interested in good solo mechanisms.
What commands did you write on the cards? Where they really completely interchangeable (eg. commands A, B, C could occur in all permutations)?
The table setting looks awesome and inspiring btw.

The cards are the ones that come with the CCN game and are very similar throughout all the versions, whether it is ancients, WWII, fantasy or ACW.
The board is divided into three sections, cleverly labeled left, center and right, and the commands on the cards correspond with those sections. For example, a card might say "order two units on the left flank." There are also cards like "cavalry charge" that allow you to activate units of the same type.
All I did was put three cards, in order, face down on the table. As the leftmost card was played, the other two cards moved over one spot and I chose a new card to put in the third spot. This created some fog of war because I'm not good at remembering which cards I played for what size and created a built in "delay" before I could react to anything.
I've always found the CCN system plays pretty well solo. In the past, I've also just drawn the top card for each side (reserving a card like First Strike and drawing again) and played it or just played both hands as normal.

I can see (more) clearly now …
Thank you!
