Just finished my 28mm later Persians. Allfoundry with some Sgt major persian Cv that took a bit of remodelling to make them look right, the mold lines were a little blurred from age I think so did some carving of necks and arms etc. to try and get the right look.
As I play DBM I did a bunch of Levy as well. I have a bunch Assyrians standing in for Chalybes hillmen in there as well, as I couldn't really find anything I liked, was going to try and mix some Viking bondi and Thracians together and or swooping heads as well but it didn't work out or I couldn't get it to work.

The link should work as I have never been able to post pictures directly onto this website, I think it as to do with the photos being at flickr I believe.

Must admit I did borrow some of the ideas and colour schemes from the Land of the lead blog , an Australian I believe, must send him a thank you of some description.
As I cast around on the web for ideas I came across his blog and shamelessly borrowed.

Awesome job. I am (slowly) working on an Achaemenid Persian DBA army, I have bookmarked your album as reference :-)

Those are terrific- especially the cavalry! The Foundry paint up well. Super colours…

Punkrabbit I would like to take credit but I got the Cv idea from this gentleman-

As you can see they are nigh on the same except I found some spears at aventine minatures that were better than the plastic ones he used.

Then he also had some foot done-

Again it was difficult finding ideas as Persians don't seem to do well in any rule set so couldn't find many decent looking armies, hence this blog was the best I found. And yes foundry do paint up well.
If you look at my other albums the Greeks were the first, then the samurai, then started fleshing out other armies I had bought over the years, you will see my painting want good with the Greeks, no real shading, started experimenting with the samurai and am getting the hang of it with these Persians but still have a way to go yet.

Inspiring work – love to see later Persians. Foundry does make some good figures. Like you I was hoping for some Chalybees but apart from an old Minifig no-one makes one. Admire your fielding so many levies – I have used Egyptians, Chaldeans (old Hinchliffe Assyrians) and Lykians (Battlestandard). Wargames Factory make reasonable foot and cavalry to pad out numbers.

Great ideas on the Land of the Lead, you might also like to check out another downunder blog (not mine I should hasten to add):

Some of my figures appear here and there in Satrap's Blog, including some of those excellent Foundry heavy cavalry.

Yet to assemble Darius in his chariot! He has been in his box for several years.

Well done.

Awesome painting job, nice to see a complete fully painted army to such a high standard. But you are missing the war rhinos and ninjas?

Lovely. Who made the transfers on the Persian shields?

goragrad01 Aug 2015 3:25 a.m. PST

Nice!!!

sumerandakkad01 Aug 2015 3:37 a.m. PST

Nice. Pity the Persians are poor relations in the shield transfer market. Would love some Ahura Mazda designs for the infantry. Or some of the Gods to terrify the enemy

Very nice brush work!

Actually has anyone used the crocodile games Spartans at all? Are the arms interchangeable at all, as I have seen some holding the spears underarm pointing straight forward.
Thinking of a little diorama sort of thing for the baggage at the back, Spartans against some Persians or if I can find any war rhinos as someone suggested here.

Lovely work indeed.

Stop being silly, the Ninjas are so well painted that they blend in and you can't see them

Amazing work – I love seeing this kind of thing – this is the kind of moon I need to shoot for

Thanks
