I would like to modify some vehicles for my fledgling Ork army. So was wondering what scale to use? Any suggestions on models?

Thanks.

For Orks 1/35 or 1/48 will work. Trucks and APCs make nice Ork vehicles. Cheap plastic kits are your best option as your only going to Orky them up. Modern vehicles will need much bigger guns especially thicker barrels or they look like pea shooters next to Orks.

Toy vehicles are a good option. Some army men play sets have nice plastic vehicles which with a bit of plastic card are easy to sort out. Take an Ork in your pocket and hold it next to the vehicle and eyeball the scale.

Depends on the figure.

Space Marines are eight feet tall, but the models are the same size and sometimes smaller than the ordinary human imperial guardsmen.

As noted above the following scales do work.

1/35th

1/48th

The only thing you can say with any real accuracy is that they are 1:1 scale GW figures. there has been so much scale creep over the years that different generations are almost incompatible.

1/48 and 1/35 will work fine for Orks and even Imperial Guard or whatever they are now called. In terms of size the GW models are pretty much 30 mm tall so do not fit within more traditional scales such as 1/56th.

I actually plan to use some WW II 1/48 scale kits for some alternate WW II games using GW Space Marines and the Dream Forge Eisenkern models. The later of which look like futuristic Germans in carapace armor.

space marines are not 8ft tall. they are around 7.

Tell that to one in Terminator Armor.

I would recommend 1/35 scale – some of my WH40K vehicles from GW or Forge World are the same size as my 1/35 WWII tanks

Only Warlock31 Jul 2015 7:39 p.m. PST

1mm taller than last year's standard. Every year.

So saying that they are 28 mm is incorrect?

1/48 vehicles work better for the non-forge world mega-death models. A 1/48 Marine LAV is about the same size as an ork trukk.
