Now that's something I like to see. 1790's to 1800 in Italy is my favourite period, mostly because I love the region of Italy where most of the battles were fought. And they have the Austrian artillery in the correct hats!!! For some reason even the AB range has them in bicorne rather than the cocked hat. My only worry about these… after going to all that work, maybe some flesh coloured paint on the faces would have helped? |

Nice, but not overly keen on the blue used for the French |

I would love to game in 1800, in which Suvorov was still alive and well and in command. |

what is wrong with the bicornes of Austrian artillery in 1792 – 1800?? |
Eclipsing Binaries | 02 Aug 2015 3:51 p.m. PST |
There's nothing wrong with bicornes, but most references show the artillery wearing the round hat with the rim turned up at the rear for this period, but I haven't seen these, especially in 15/18mm. Looking at those again though, they look like jager hats rather than artillery. |

Must be me, but I really enjoy these sort of pics, as I love looking through them trying to spot the various makes of figures. Sometimes I pity those who oly use Perry 28mm (or similar). 1/72 guys see more adventurous (hmmm, wonder if that would make a good t-shirt logo) |

Actually you can have both, but for me the round hat with one brim turned up was not as widly used than the "tricorne" – Reilly shows in 1796 all Austrian artillery with "tricorne" |

I just got a copy of the Histoire & Collections "The Battle of Marengo" with colour plates by Andre Jouineau, which strangely shows a mix Round Hat and 1798 Helmet with the red crest (?) for the Austrian artillery… and NO bicornes!! If there is evidence of "tricornes" in 1796 I think we need to convince Sho Boki to do some artillery variants, as there was probably a mix of headgear going on, rather than all bicorne as most figure suppliers produce. |

In the HC book all austrian infantry is also wearing the new helmet which is completely wrong for Marengo imho. |
von Winterfeldt | 06 Aug 2015 4:44 a.m. PST |
the red crested helmet was only a planned item, it never materialized, you can see it also on the Mollo plates for 1798, be carefull about uniform details from Jouineau – especially about other armies. Indeed it is also wrong that all infantry did wear the crested helmet, most of the infantry, if not almost all did still wear the Kaskett. So best – ignore the book for Austrian uniforms |

Eclipsing Binaries , the AB Early Austrian range has the artillery in cocked hats, three cocks, not two. Certainly there are round hats in some illustrations as well , and it might be nice to offer those as well some time . The later range has the bicorne, as was usual for the whole 1798 to 1815 period, I believe. As a comment on the splendid models in the pics, it's excellent work , apart from the ridiculous vivid blue, which I feel rather spoils the whole effect. |

Thanks Anthony. I'll get some of them at some point. I thought they had Bicorne. |
