link My Spanish Tercio Viejo is now ready to take on the French. I have attempted to give them the air of well equipped men full of belief in themselves and their abilities. More pics on the blog link |

Not my period, but I'm impressed. I can imagine them storming the section of the line held by the Cadets of Carbon de Castell Jaloux at dawn (Cyrano de Bergerac). Grelber |

Nicely done and love this period but will have to wait to collect and do it another day/year/decade/ if I live that long. What miniatures are those? Nothing like a scary block of pikemen who know what they are about. |

Great job of mixing figures from the various Warlord sets. The many pictures that get posted of these units are starting to all look the same. |

What miniatures are those? They are a mix of Warlord, Perry and The Assault Group. More complete descriptions on who's who on my blog at link |

Great looking cavalry. I noticed a number of cavalrymen lacking facial hair. These must be from Wallonia. : ) Question. As a matter of interest when would the Morion helmet have been replaced by the felt hat… by 1670? Robert |

My understanding is that helmets continued to be worn by some pikemen beyond that time but armour had more or less been phased out by then. I have seen a number of references that say by the 1650s the French pikemen no longer wore armour other than in the Gardes Françaises and Gardes Suisse. I believe the Spanish continued to wear armour a bit longer and I have deliberately given my Spanish a more heavily armoured look. My French have a mix of morions and soft hats. Same for cavalry with hats gradually taking over from helmets as the troopers lightened their equipment. |
