I refought this battle yesterday and had immense pleasure at how well the scenario performed and the way the battle was fought.

As usual full report and more pictures on my blog link

That is a very impressive amount of figures. Looks like you had a lot of fun. What rules did you use?

The rules were War & Conquest from Scarab Miniatures, I use these rules because I do like large battles and although I do play skirmish I wanted to get back to what I got into wargaming to enjoy, battles with armies!

There are about another five units which were not used in the battle and that just about completes my Dark Age armies.

Excellent battle report and a superb blog! Love this period which I gamed mainly with WAB until the advent of Saga which though a good game does make me miss the big battles that initially attracted me to the period.

Glad you liked the report and blog Reb. I missed out on WAB but enjoy WAC so much I am on my third army and plan two more!

I'm fascinated by the earlier 'pre-viking age' battles! My saga Saxons are based on the Army of Egfrith of Northumbria who died in the battle of Nechtansmere in 685….Egfrith counts as a 'hero of the (pre)viking age and comes with his own special rules that allow me to craft the right warband to him.

WAC does look interesting so I shall research it some more before giving it a try anyway haha!

We have an event with some army lists that may be of interest in a couple of weeks called Age of Warlords, it includes an Early Saxon list

You can find the Age of Warlords event pack and a 'big book of army lists' here link

details of the event here link

and individual army lists here link

We tried out the lists and the skirmish version last weekend, report on the way, but it was good and if you are expanding a saga warband, the expansion to the War & Conquest core rules seem to fit well

Hope that helps and heres a link to some page spreads from War & Conquest link
