Does anyone do it? I'm thinking of getting into it but I have already have quite a few Langton Ships. Also what is the ideal number of ships? And finally how is it for small ships, say two brigs ? Most AoS games seem to be either for Frigates and above of Sloops and below. I currently do Close Action and others (Ship o' the Line and Hearts of Oak mainly) but every so often I'm looking for a beer and pretzels game.

SoG ship's are 1/1000 scale. Langton's are 1/1200. I have not seen either side by side so I don't know how hard you have to squint to make them seem compatable. The only other ship line in production at 1/1000 is the Houston's pre-dreadnought line from Great Endeavors.

If I'm not mistaken you can download the rules for free. Buying the game requires buying the minis and that is pretty expensive for models you won't use…

I played it once. Very fiddly. It felt I spent more time taking care of my chits and markers than playing the game. I thought the damage rules – where you pull chits from a bag – was overly fiddly. A nice way to make you buy their chits though.

Yes! you can down-load the rules. But all the things you need to play bar the rules you must buy. Ship-logs, chits, movement cards only come with the ships. Hmmmm! I would say, If you are starting our hobby and have no models or cannot or do not paint any more this could be for you. I have seen the different between 1-1000 and 1-1200 scale ships. It is so close I do/cannot understand why they made this 1-1000 scale. I think to caught you, and not let you use other makes of ships. Once you are into "Sails of Glory" you are stuck with it. Or buy the bits with the ships and sell the ships. Not the best way to spend money unless you want the this game as a whole.

Thanks all, I've seen the SoG ships and I'm not all that impressed, especially at the price. Even the ships I build are better and they're not all that good. Oh well, another idea shot down, thanks all.
