So here's a lesson I learned the hard way: Don't store resin scenery on a ( rubber ) Zuzzy mat for long periods of time.

I had two detachable piers/jetties for my waterfront board on a storage shelf, just sitting there for months waiting to come back into action in an upcoming adventure. The piers are made of pink insulation foam with carefully cut sections of Zuzzy's Stoneworks mat glued onto them ( link ) .

The mat was primed and painted and has been holding up excellently for several years now…until the other day.

On top of the piers I had several Armorcast Gothic walls ( link ) lined up to save space on the shelf. The walls were primed and painted--except for the bottoms. Well, apparently, some kind of reaction happened while they were sitting on top of the rubber mat because when I removed the piers, the rubber had HUGE bubbles in it and was stretched comically out of shape.

In fact, I had to carefully peel it back off of the pink foam, re-glue it, and then use an Xacto to trim the excess off of the sides. Now mind you, it was already trimmed to exact fit on the shape of the piers.

Long story short, don't store resin pieces on those mats for long periods of time or you might wind up with bubbles on your Zuzzy.

Good lesson for current owners of Zuzzys. I'm not sure anyone in the near future will have the opportunity to find this out for themselves.

Sad really.

Yeah, I've been reading their tales of woe. I really wanted to order another mat for another project but with their production and fulfillment troubles--no thanks.

One must always check for bubbles on one's zuzzy….you know someone would say it….

I've heard there's an ointment for that.

I love my two Zuzzy 6x4 mats and matching bits, both Despolied Reaches – one in molten form and the other cooled and solidified. Very nice products. Shame that supply chain woes are plaguing other potential happy customers.

I will make a point to keep my zuzzys clear.

Yes, I was so impressed by a friend's Zuzzy that I was going to order 4 mats, until I read on their site that the order would take 14 weeks or thereabouts.

A gentleman does not peek at another's zuzzy; not even a friend's.

Black Cavalier--if I didn't know any better I'd say you've been hanging 'round my house. That's pretty much our wisecrack for everything that ails somebody: "There's an ointment for that…" ;-}~

Using my zuzzy's currently in a large game. I keep mine rolled up in the cellophane, in the plastic bag and in the box. But that is nice to know about the resin, being how I have about 20 resin PMC games medieval houses on it now. I will go check, its only been a few days, but my game room is out in the garage, and it is july (in Texas).

Thanks for the heads up.

darclegion, I have mine permanently affixed to pink insulation foam board for one of my gaming tables so unfortunately rolling it up isn't an option--though I don't usually leave my resin stuff sitting on the table for long. It was just these walls sitting on the (removable) piers (pictured below in the foreground…the walls are a little further back):

Very nice set up. I like the water. I went out and checked mine, so far after a week of the resin buildings, nothing wrong. But I will definately keep watch for (ever). Thanks for the info.

Your table is fabulous btw again.

Tom

ps, what kind of glue did you use to glue it to the board with?

Dantes Cellar04 Aug 2015 7:43 p.m. PST

Thank you, Tom.

I used 3M Super 77 spray adhesive. Works like a charm, toxic as all get out though. Have to use a respirator and spray it outdoors.

The "water" was done by airbrushing the plywood with a solid blue base, then various blues airbrushed over that. Then I picked up some acrylic light fixture covers (for ceiling fixtures) and hit the bottom of them with a light coat from my airbrush, then spray fixed them to the board.
