Would a commanded shot unit look like musketeers from a "normal" pike & shot unit? Would there be any discernible differences in equipment, clothing etc?

Also, in terms of wargame basing should the figures be positioned any differently to shot bases?

Thanks.

They were mostly drawn from normal units so they should look the same.

Zero diffrences as the men were drawn from ordinary units and would have the same equipment. If you are modelling Swedish units the bulk of the commanded shot should not have any helmets as they were usually drawn from units that never were issued with them. In a TYW army I would only field a single unit of commanded shot with helmets which represents the native Swedes and only in the "early" (i.e Gustavus) period. The elite Yellow and Blue regiments did not deploy any commanded shot in this period.

Probably not, though this might depend on what sort of basing convention you are using.

If you have enough models per commanded shot unit, you might want to give them a little command element, such as a junior officer, possibly accompanied with drummer or NCO.

Donald,

For FoG:R, I tend to give my commanded shot bases one command figure each plus four musketeers, instead of the three/four musketeers on "normal" shot bases in P&S units.

SM: elegant solution (as figure numbers don't really mean much in FoG apart from identity).

For ECW use a Forelorn Hope of commanded shot was often drawn from several regiments so there could be a mix of coat colours.
