Just riding on Peterx's coat tails here; what is your favorite post-apoc film and why?

I haven't actually thought about my own answer yet, but a couple favs include Fury Road for its intense, well-edited, non-CGI action, as well as for treating the baddies like human beings instead of as faceless minions.

I also enjoyed Bounty Killers for some B-movie fun:

Robert Burke20 Jul 2015 8:49 a.m. PST

Road Warrior with Mel Gibson.

Martin Rapier20 Jul 2015 9:01 a.m. PST

As above, Threads.

Deeply disturbing and any film which has traffic wardens armed with SLRs has to be good.

But really, there are so many to choose from, it being a popular subject back in the Cold War and all… a few more

The Omega Man
Planet of the Apes
The Day the Earth Caught Fire
The Forbidden Plant (who said it had to be on earth)
Mad Max II
The War Game (Peter Watkins one, not the other one)

Dredd counts!

I've never heard of Threads; going to have to look that one up.

The Last Man on Earth
The Time Machine
On the Beach

Gota be Escape from New York with the one and only Snake Pliskin (the original one if there is a remake its bound to be junk), yes I know the USA still sorta works (Like a backwards version of Cuba eh:) and there is a World War with nuclear weapons being used, but its still a cool end of times setting.
Cheers and go Snake

Threads – 1984
The Road – 2009

Both very disturbing, but very realistic. The Road was vague as to the exact nature of the exact event that caused the meltdown of society. But both worth watching.

doug redshirt20 Jul 2015 10:29 a.m. PST

Fury Road still the best movie of the year so far. And Planet of the Apes with Chuck.

mwindsorfw20 Jul 2015 10:32 a.m. PST

Threads was the more disturbing British nuclear war movie from the 80's. The U.S. had the more sanitized The Day After.

Stealth100020 Jul 2015 10:46 a.m. PST

Book of Eli
The Road

I do not remember the name but it was about two kids who grew up in a bomb shelter and read LOTS of detective comics. When they exit the shelter as adults they are dressed like 1930's detectives and tell everyone they are dicks – and are nearly eaten by cannibals right way. I think the fallout videogame borrowed some of the plot…

EDIT: I was wondering what the heck Threads is but now having gone to imdb.com I seem to recall seeing it in the local telly during 80's… Grim stuff, iirc.

My favorite is probably "After The Fall Of New York".
But I have something like 200 of these movies on VHS, so it's hard to pick just one.

Dynaman, the movie your talking about was "Radioactive Dreams" with Michael Dudikoff and John Stockwell.
Watched that one about two or three weeks ago.

? I saw a film a million years ago that had the hero cutting through a butch shop that sold people, hanging from the ceiling was a cowboy and instead of helping him he left him there but but his hat back on. I doubt it but does anyone remember it and know the name. Thanks in advance

meledward2321 Jul 2015 5:44 a.m. PST

The Road

Hell (In the not too distant future, people struggle to survive their greatest enemy, the sun.)

Yes they are both more recent, and yes Hell is no where near the best, but it is a good one for those into the theme that havent seen it.
