I was wondering what people thought of the flea market this year. As a seller was it east to get your items in to set up? As a buyer was there enough room to move around in?

Xintao20 Jul 2015 4:39 a.m. PST

I was a seller in the Friday PM session. I set up with no problem. I was worried the one hour set up time would be hectic, but it worked out fine. Usually for the morning session you have a little more time to set up. There was the standard rush in the first hour, then things died down, but we have a steady stream right till the end.

I was a buyer in every session. Even in the Saturday Morning session, I didn't feel as cramped as in past years.

The flea market was well done all around.

What were the hours that the Flea Market was open?

For once I found everything I wanted that I was going to buy new. More than made up for the miserable experiance on 95 south. Flea market was great on Saturday AM but sparse for the afternoon session. First time I ever found what I needed at the flea market and all were great deals!

Manchu20 Jul 2015 6:29 a.m. PST

The hours were 10AM-1PM and 2PM-5PM.

On Friday, nearly every table was claimed for both sessions. As mentioned above, there were less sellers on Saturday. There were many empty tables during the second session.

Buyers (including myself) started queuing up about 30 minutes before the sessions opened. The area was pretty packed for the first hour or so but gradually became easier to navigate.

Would you say Friday was better than Saturday? We usually get a table Sat morning for the weekend visitors. Maybe we should switch?

I got in a couple of passes through over the weekend. Much more room to look at things than in the Host. Sold most of what I brought at rock bottom prices Sunday morning. Bought 4 Battlefront Lee/Grant tanks and when I got them home & opened the sealed baggies each was in I only had enough barrels and hatches to put 2 together. Kinda' made the good price not so good.

@redbanner4145

I think I was the only one selling BF vehicles in baggies this weekend.

We brought over 500 of them, and I thought we had made sure all items were sorted and complete ( I know we left things here at home because they were short a barrel, hatch, etc.), but these may have fallen through the cracks…

Send me a PM with exactly what you're missing, and I will make it right one way or another. I'm sure I have some more of those somewhere in the Collective.

Thanks
Steve

The hours were 10AM-1PM and 2PM-5PM.

Thanks for the answer. Anyone know how this compares to Cold Wars and Fall In?

Salient feature of flea market: loads of FoW figures at 50% off or better. They were everywhere and many ended up in my bag for use with our upcoming WWII rules. :-) I definitely made Pacarat's trip back to CO easier!

jefritrout20 Jul 2015 11:09 a.m. PST

As far as I know the hours are all the same.

@VIS:

Ha!

We definitely came back with less…but it was close.

Too many good deals from other sellers in the flea market – my son and I had a wish list of odds and ends that we pretty much completed. (With two of us at the table we could tag team the selling and searching.)

We picked up some new stuff in the dealer hall, too, so that didn't help… :-)

Which day or session is best varies depending on who you're talking to. IMO people underestimate Thursday afternoon: sellers during that session get first crack at the buyers, and buyers have probably the most money in their wallets that they'll have the whole weekend. Some sellers told me they did their best sales on Thursday. (I'm sure others will say they did the least.) Regardless of the session, there was always a line of guys waiting to get in. If you have what people want, at a price they want to pay, you'll do OK.

Just my two cents, based on a lot of years of experience and observation.

Thanks again,

I was happy to find pacarat's table and pick up a matched pair of DBA armies, and even got my friend to pick up an army of his own, all at a great price. I didn't find anyone else in either the dealer hall or flea market who was selling them.

Thanks!

Since I voiced my concerns in an earlier thread about the recent haphazard running of the flea market, at least from my limited perspective, I thought I should say that the check-in and reservation process went very well for my Friday slot. Buying and Selling seemed pretty good the first two hours. I left during the third hour as I had sold a bunch and traffic really dropped off.

shthar22 Jul 2015 10:53 p.m. PST

Slow. I didn't even bother setting up to sell on saturday.

vonLoudon30 Jul 2015 6:33 p.m. PST

Much improved over last year and I could park my car within a reasonable distance after unloading.

Great. My brother and I both had tables Saturday morning and sales were very good. I had a Sat. PM table which did OK. Saturday afternoons are often a little sluggish especially at Historicon because of the extra day of sales. Saturday morning, most of the tables appeared to be taken. A fair number of empty tables in the afternoon. Again, not that unusual. The free session on Sunday morning looked fairly active.
Entry and set-up went very smoothly. A big "Thank You" to Chris and the Wally's Basement volunteer crew!
