Are you primarily a gamer, historian; craftsman, collector, or mix of some or all? The Palouse Wargaming Journal recently posted an entry discussing the profiling of wargamers by four, broad attributes. Only eight participants thus far. More data points would be welcome. If readers are interested in participating in this informal study by offering their own, personal ratings (in the comments section of the posting), I will update the graphic as new data are submitted. Thank you. link |

History .. 10 Craft …… 10 Game Freq .. 100+/year Collect …. 7 What might be missing in this analysis is the distinction between those who write their own rules/design their own scenarios, and those who play off the shelf games/rules. Big difference. Big numbers in each camp. Phil |

Thank you for your ratings and comments, Phil. 100+ games per year? Incredible! As for the game design attributes, I rolled those into the History classification. If you look back at my Historian classification, note that it includes reading, research, game and scenario design, etc.. A '10' in this category would be someone who does all of these activities whereby a gamer with no game design component would typically rank lower. I do see your point about confounding, though. Good insights! |

Weekend events like CoW, just gone, rattle up the tally, as do occasional DBA events. In addition, over the years, we have played around 50 weekly games though this year will be lower on that side as a result of work commitments amongst the regulars. Phil |

Yeah.. we have 2 gaming days per week (Wed night and Sunday afternoon) + a couple of conventions each year that account for 5-7 games each. I'm at around eighty because I usually miss a couple gaming nights a month. |

@leidang and@Yesthatphil, I cannot imagine playing anywhere close to 80 or 100 games per year. That truly boggles my mind! |

300+ page hits and only two volunteers? I figured response rate would be higher. |

Fun! Here is my info, I think? History: 6? 7? I studied history in undergrad, and only really read historical stuff. But I am no published historian or anything. Craft: I can paint a bit, and build a bit. 7? 8? Do I get credit for doing scenes and dioramas and building tables and all of that? Game Frequency: 10 a year? I don't get to game much at all:( Collect: Hm. I have a LOT of smaller scale figures. I figure I have to be in the 8 area, given all the stuff I have, no? Fun stuff, although I would wager everyone grades themselves differently than others would:) There are a LOT of tens here… does everyone out there just blow me away?:) |

Excellent, Your Lordship! For Craftiness, you are an '8' in my book. I am sure the ratings will vary due to bias but it is interesting to see how one steps forward and rates him (or her) self. Thanks for participating. |

No problem! Yeah, it is funny to grade yourself… Never sure if I am overrstimating or underestimating:$ |

History – 7 Enjoy research but not an obsession Craft – 8 Decent painter, ex pro. Hate terrain and kit building Games – 40-50 a year, severely curtailed by shift work Collection – 9 Large collections in many scales and periods mostly due to not getting rid of stuff in 35 years gaming. Write own rules and create scenarios / campaigns, probably enjoy that side as much if not more than gaming. Regards, Ken yarkshiregamer.blogspot.co.uk |
