There's an old SF short story I remember reading years ago, where a general asks his high tech psi-corps research division to predict what will be the most advanced weapon in twenty years time. After much effort one of the psychics produces a drawing of a weapon. The head of the research group says that much work will be needed to decipher what hi-tech wizardry is captured in the plans. The general pulls on his gloves and says 'Don't bother. It's a crossbow'. Ah, the 70's, when optimism ruled… |
